Problems with headlights blowing out, replaced bulb, still no high beam. Lights completely went out one night. Had to have family member follow me home. Battery detached to get lights inside off. Lights originally went off when I plugged my cell phone in for charging; something that I have always done in my prior vehicles. Vehicle cutting off, shop states that it is due to problem with emission. Ac runs hot when vehicle keep turning off. Vehicle acceleration is bad. Vehicle even when running on interstate appear to be having difficulty maintaining speed, appears to be wanting to cut off. Vehicle cuts off in middle of traffic for no particular reason. Started putting premium gas, but gas smells are bad when I run vehicle in garage to warm up. Shop thinks that once charge ac may improve.

Consumer states that when starting up the vehicle the vehicle tends to jump forward and/or jump into neutral when comping to a stop. On seperate occasions the vehicle has hit other vehicles and also has hit people walking in front of the vehicle. Nlm dealer replaced transmission but problem still exists. On a separate occasion, the vehicle was involved in an accident, causing the air bag light to come on. Consumer states there is a bad odor coming from the A/C unit. Dealer drained A/C unit, but problem still exist. Consumer states that rear window is leaking.

While stopped at a stop light behind other vehicles, my vehicle suddenly accelerated pushing me into the vehicle in front of mine. Applying full pressure with both feet on the brake pedal, my vehicle continued to lurch forward into the vehicle in front of me and pushing it into another vehicle. I had to put my car into park and shut off the engine to get it to stop lurching forward. It must have lurched forward 3 or 4 times into the truck in front of me after making initial hit. We've noticed where the idle would increase in the past but nothing that seemed to be dangerous in any way. We had a 98 expidition that would increase in RPM's and lurch forward and had to take it to the dealer for repair. That driver in the truck in front of me complained of neck problems and had to be taken in an ambulance.

Since purchasing this vehicle in March 2000, we have had problems with rough idling, transmission not wanting to shift, front end clunking, rear end suspension and sudden acceleration. Extensive repairs have been done on this vehicle, including replacing the transmission, yet none of the above items have been repaired. It is extremely dangerous to be driving a vehicle when suddenly it will accelerate and drive on its own. The car can drive at 50 - 60 mph for several miles without stepping on the accelerator. When stopped at a traffic light you have to listen to the engine, watch the RPM's and be ready to put the car into neutral and push forcefully on the brakes to keep the car from plowing into the car ahead. Last week I pulled into the bank parking lot and with no warning the car's RPM's jumped to 3,000 and I barely missed hitting two parked cars. In addition, the front end makes hard, loud grinding noises, when backing up the four wheel drive goes out and it feels like the car has two flat tires. It also does this sometime going forward and turning, so it is difficult to steer when it does this. From the day that this car was purchased it has idled like an old car that desperately needs a tune up. All these problems still exist after having the car be at the dealer for 39 days this year. Because this vehicle is not safe, I have notified chino hills Ford, Ford and the arbitration board that I want Ford to repurchase my vehicle because it is not safe.

Transmission went out at approx. 4000 miles. Ford replaced transmission under warranty, but Ford will not acknowledge transmission problem with Expedition. I feel transmission should be on Ford recall list. I know of numerous other Expedition owners who have had to replace their transmissions. I also have an engine acceleration problem, which Ford has acknowledged is very common on the Expedition. They are supposed to fix it on 8/27/01. Ford tech. Told me it is very common problem and they may have a recall on it. (the acceleration problem.

Vehicle continues to exhibit same intermitent power loss for the past 13 months. Vehicle is becoming very dangerous, as loss of power requires compensation on drivers part to anticipate traffic flow. Traveling through South Dakota bad lands (towing 25ft travel trailer), climbing out of valley, when vehicle lost power. Vehicle was climbing out with no problem, when half way up the vehicle decelerated from 35mph to less than 5mph (no change in hill grade). Vehicle quit running approximately 100 miles from rapid city sd. Catalytic converters were burned-up. All dealers visited over the last 13 months have not been able to define the problem. Vehicle continues to self destruct.

On 5/3/01, at approx. 2:40 pm, I was driving North on 10th(amsterdam) ave in manhattan in relatively light traffic at approx 20-25mph. As I crossed the intersection of amsterdam & 58th St, my vehicle suddenly began to accelerate uncontrollably toward a high rate of speed. Standing on the brake pedal with all my weight only managed to slow the vehicle to perhaps 30mph, with engine racing as if the gas pedal were pushed to the floor, when obviously there was no pressure being applied to it at all. As I crossed the intersection of 59th St, I managed to gently ease the gearshift lever into neutral. This combined with my continuous pressure on the brake brought the vehicle to nearly a stop, with the engine still racing. The instant forward motion ceased, the vehicle lurched into reverse, with the gearshift still in the neutral position. The vehicle then began traveling backwards, once again at the same high rate of acceleration. Still standing on the brake petal, I switched the ignition off. A split second second later, the right rear quarter of the vehicle slammed into an ambulance, at a speed of perhaps 30-35 mph. From the beginning of the incident until the end, I travelled about 500 feet forward and 120 feet in reverse, continuously maintaining maximum pressure on the brake petal. My vehicle impacted the ambulance at the strongest part of its structure, the curved, steel reinforced front corner of the ambulance "box". had the ambulance been 2 feet further back, the driver would have been killed instantly. There were 3 emt's in the front of the ambulance, and no passenger or personel in the rear. All of them saw exactly what I have described, and I am sure their statements about the movements of my vehicle will corroborate my description of the accident. I was extremely fortunate to impact a vehicle with enough mass to stop the momentum of my 2 1/2 ton SUV. Had I impacted smaller passenger vehicles or pedestrians, many people could have been killed.

On a dry-flat road, the SUV was stopped - put in reverse - the SUV automatically accelerated to 50 miles per hour - the brakes would not stop the SUV - an ey-witness said the the SUV was "bucking" - possibly from the brakes catching but not stoping the SUV. The svu hit a tree and flew into the woods -- only then did it stop. Ford Corp. Has not responded to any inquires - this needs attention - the next time - someone could be seriously hurt!

Failures occur during cold weather (-10 to 5 F). Vehicle seems to operate normally until warm. Initial episode occurred on Jan 14, 2000. On that date the vehicle traveled 20 miles on an interstate normally using cruise control set to 65 mph. Upon exiting the highway and braking the vehicle maintained 3000 RPM and independently accelerated to 30 mph (without apply gas). This occurred intermittent over the next few days; resolving after the vehicle was garaged over night. On Jan 19, 2000, (after being garaged overnight) the vehicle traveled normally for 8 miles in town; but, independently and rapidly accelerated from 35 mph to greater than 70 mph upon accessing the interstate. The vehicle traveled 20 miles to the dealer without applying the gas and under constant braking to maintain 50 to 65 mph. The dealer service manager indicated that they fixed the problem by reprogramming an "electronic computer module." The vehicle performed normally until Jan 21, 2000 when it exhibited the same independently acceleration described in the initial incident. The overall feel to these incidence is that the cruise control is on and stuck in an accelerate mode; but the cruise control is either off or turned off in all instances. The vehicle will be returned to the dealer on Jan 24, 2000.

While vehicle is in gear & driving, would have foot on brakes to stop, and vehicle would lunge forward at 10mph. When the brakes were slightly released, the rpms would be revving up. Took vehicle to dealership & was informed by mechanic after diagonistic was run, that everything was according to specs. Manufacturer agreed with dealership.
