I continue to have fail safe warning problem after dealer said problem was due to a wiring harness behind engine that melted and cause electrical problem. After $600 to fix melted wiring harness, the problem is still occurring and the engine shuts off while driving. This is a dangerous situation and needs to be address ASAP by FORD before it causes a fatal accident!

THE EXPEDITION'S "POWER" COMPONENTS HAVE YET AGAIN SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. FAIL SAFE LIGHT COMES ON. LUCKILY WE HAVEN'T BEEN IN A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION AND ABLE TO MUSCLE THE TRUCK TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WAIT AND RESTART. I SEE WE AREN'T ALONE, FORD.

FORD, ARE YOU WAITING TO MAKE THE HEADLINES, BE THE LEAD STORY FOR OUR NEWS OUTLETS? WILL SOMEONE OR MANY HAVE TO BE INJURED OR DIE BEFORE YOU TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS LIFE THREATENING DEFECT?

FORD, THIS IS A MASSIVE VEHICLE. WITH THIS PROBLEM MANY ARE FACING, AT SPEED THE EXPEDITION BECOMES NOTHING MORE THAN A 2 OR 3 TON OUT-OF-CONTROL MISSILE.

HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT THAT THE NEXT TIME YOU'RE SITTING AT RED LIGHT AND AN EXPEDITION IS COMING AT YOU FROM BEHIND?

DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS! RECALL THIS VEHICLE!

I don't seem to be the only one with this problem. Every 3 to 4 months the car displays a "Fail Safe Mode" warning and the engine shuts off. It happened this weekend on the freeway "AGAIN". Each time it happens I can pull to the side of the road, stop the car and then restart it without an issue and the warning light turns off. The dealership has been kind enough to check the car (and charge me for it) 3 times after which they tell me nothing is wrong with it. I'm going to file a complaint with the Better Businees Bureau and I strongly recommend that everyone else do the same. Unfortunately Ford is waiting for someone to die in an accident before they will address the problem so I'm going to do what I can to get it addressed before that happens which is probably wishful thinking but what else can I do?

This problem has been haunting me for a year. While driving, the vehicle would go into Engine Fail Safe mode. Each time I would take in in to the dealership they would look for a code in the computer but no code was there. Finally I started getting a Check engine light which means the computer recorded a code. Took it in for Service and they replaced the Catalytic Converter. Good new, the repair was covered under warranty. Two weeks later the car went into engine fail safe mode again with another Check engine light. Took back in for service and this time they replaced the Throttle Body and Motor Assembly at a cost of $504.00. Hopefully this fixes the problem.

Someone needs to look into this problem. I view this as a major safety concern. It is dangerous everytime the engine goes into the engine fail safe mode because the driver loses the ability to properly control the vehicle. Power steering stops working, just a bad thing when you are out in traffic. I was surprised when I searched on this problem and found other complaints.

My 2006 Expedition just shuts off while driving! 70 miles per housr down the expressway & it just quits running Ford dealer can't find the problem I have had it in for service twice withing 28 days & nothing. This is so scary to be on the expreeway and it just quits running. Ford dealer say they have to be able to find what is causing problem in order to repair it but as of 9-10-10 they have been unable to find out what is causing it to stop running, it just shuts down.

I have a 9 year old & a specail needs child that can not walk and it scares the hell out of me to think it will quit agin on the expressway and I won't be able to get my two girls out of the car and we will be killed by on coming vehicles. I think Ford needs to have a major recall I am not the only one this has happened to. Ford dealers depends on these stupid computers they hook up to a car to find the problem & from things I have read problems don't always show up on these fancy high dollar computers! What is Ford waiting for to have a major recall? How many people have already died becasue of this?

Update from Oct 3, 2010: Since the dealership, repair service department could not find the problem with my Expedition I starting doing research on the most complaints of the 2006 Expedition and found it seemed & sounded like the TPS (throttle positioner sensor) since a lot of people were having the same problems I was having. My husband replaced the TPS the orginial sensor keyway is made out of PLASTIC & it fits onto a metal shaft which has caused it to wear very badly very visible to see when you remove the old TPS, the new TPS that Ford has now replaced from the older plastic one has metal inserts on the keyway which fits onto the metal shaft. To make a long story short replacing the TPS fixed the problem my Expediton runs great now, I did contact Ford Motor Company & complained about the dealership not being able to find & fix my vehicle and the Ford service department kept ginving me the run around and Ford Motor Company has sent me a check for the amount that we paid for the new TPS. Seems to me that Ford knows they have a problem with the TPS or they would not have sent me a check. THe problem with my Expediton has been fixed and the TPS is very simple to find on the vechile and very easy to replace.

WOW, I am not alone, I have been having problems with my 2006 Expedition for several months now. The 1st time the my expedition turned off, was while I was at a red light, I thought nothing of it, as it turnd back on and continued running "normally" about a month later it turns off again, while i was on the freeway! NOW THAT WAS SCARY! At that point I took the vehicle into the dealership where I purchased it as it was still under warrannty. I was hoping that they would find the problem and fix it but it was a great disappointment when the the service guy tells me " There is absolutely nothing wrong with your vehicle, its in perfect running condition."

Well Let me tell you, since then it has TURNED ITS SELF OFF while traveling on the freeway, and on city streets, red lights. ect. Now my vehicle is no longer under warranty and if anything I will have to pay for the repairs, IF they can EVER figure out what is wrong with it. I can not believe that with this many complaints, FORD has not done anything to investigate this problem!

MAYBE they do want another TOYOTA situation before they do anything about it, WHAT'S IT GOING TO TAKE!

Stupid truck (if you can call it that) turned off while on the Highway when trying to pass a Big-Rig Semi truck! ... Can you believe it!? .. OMG - I was SO very lucky my kid & wife were not in the truck with me and that I was able to swerve out of the way, stick the thing in neutral, restart it, put it back in gear - and get moving again!

I mean, it's done it to me before in the past, and I just figured it was some sort of fluke where I might not have turned the key over completely of something - but when I told my wife what happened she said it's happened to her at least a half dozen times in the past year or so!

I dunno what to say? I've been a Ford guy all the way since my 94 Bronco... But seriously... What's up with this truck and all it's electrical / engine / Ac problems?

I'm having all three problems at once - and just about 15k miles after it went out of warranty. WTF?

Fail safe cuts off engine while driving. Last time on the freeway. Trouble light goes on, but car starts up later with no light. This has happened twice. My mechanic says its the throttle/electrical system. It reads OK on diagnostic, but something is wrong The dealers will gladly charge me to replace the system, but why does it read ok on diagnostic checks???

While driving sown the road doing about 45-50 the throttle body light came on and the engine just shut down. Luckily there were two officers behind me and nothing major happened. After about a few minutes it cranked back up and I was on my way. I looked it up on line and found all kinds of stories about this same type of incident and just about everyone had there truck checked out. And the same thing happened to them again (engine shut-off). Since my check engine light was on previously to this I took it in and got a diagnostic check done. Amazingly they told me everything that was wrong with my truck with the exception of the throttle body light code (if there is one that is supposed to show up). The recommendation was to change the 02 sensors (all 4). So I did, and guess what my check engine light was back on within 55 miles and though I had not stalled again yet, I am still on pins and needles...Not good at all.

ON 1/5/08 DRIVING AT 60MPH THE "FAIL SAFE ENGINE" LIGHT COMES ON AND THE VEHICLES ENGINE SHUTS OFF AUTOMATICALLY AND YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OF STEERING THE VEHICLE. IT WAS TOWED INTO THE CLOSEST FORD DEALERSHIP AND THE FOLLOWING MONDAY CALLED AND SAID THEY HAD TO REPLACE A THROTTLE SENSOR. I WENT TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE AND WHEN I STARTED UP THE ENGINE, IT SOUNDED LIKE A JET ENGINE WITH ALL THE WHINING NOISE IT WAS MAKING, THE TECH SAID "THAT DON'T SOUND GOOD" SO I HAD TO GET ANOTHER RENTAL CAR AND LEAVE IT AGAIN. THEY CALLED THE NEXT DAY TO SAY THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE NOISE. ON 2/2/08 WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT, SAME LIGHT, SAME PROBLEM. NO CONTROL OF STEERING WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND IT'S VERY DANGEROUS. THIS TIME DEALERSHIP SAID THEY HAD TO REPLACE AN AIR FLOW SENSOR. GUESS WHAT 2/9/08...ONE FREAKING WEEK LATER, SAME THING. THIS TIME TOWED TO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. ALTHOUGH THIS IS UNDER WARRANTY (FOR NOW) THE INABILITY NOT TO STEER THE VEHICLE MAKES THIS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH FORD AND THEY WANT ME TO KEEP THE POSTED, NEXT I PLAN ON FILING A COMPLAINT WITH NATIONAL SAFETY COMMISSION
