paint on hood bubbling around perimeter

At about 40,000 miles my 2013 Ford Explorer Ltd. (a $45,000 car that's a little over 2 yrs. old at that point) began showing bubbling and flaking paint on the front edge of the hood. Ford has been absolutely no help in it. Customer service has told me they can't do anything and it would be up to a dealership to decide if they wanted to cover anything, and when I go ask the dealership about it they say there's nothing they can do unless Ford authorizes a program to repair it. It's beyond frustrating that I now have a car that's only 3.5 yrs. old that has this much bubbling/flaking paint.

The paint around the hood of my 2013 Explorer is bubbling and chipping. It's such a common problem I've found out and everyone seems to be getting the run around from Ford.

Took it to the Frequently Obtains Repair Dollars (FORD) dealership only to find Ford has craft fully written their paint warranty for full puncture rusting coverage. Unbelievable I may as well should have purchased a Pinto oh wait that was one of their vehicles also! Needless to say I made the call to Ford only to hear a repeat of their worthless paint warranty. I guess I'll be sticking with anything but a Ford moving forward and suggest anyone contemplating purchasing a Ford follow suit.

I have a 2013 Ford Explorer and the paint is bubbling and separating from the front of the hood on the top and at right rear too. I took it to the Dealer and they said that the warranty does not cover it. It is a factory damage and nobody can help with this at Ford Company. They said that I have to paid for it to fix it, but it is unreasonable, because this vehicle only has 3 years old and 21,000 miles and the Ford Company couldn't do anything to help with this problem.

Filiform corrosion along the lip of the hood. This is a manufacturing defect and will never be covered under the factory warranty as the corrosion warranty only covers perforation. The aluminum hood will not perforate from corrosion, just give you a horrible finish appearance - bubbles along the entire lip. Ford can't paint aluminum, they have yet to figure it out. I was not privy to this before I bought my Explorer, probably would have gone a different direction.

So I recently picked up a 2013 Ford Explorer Limited, the nicest and most expensive car I have ever bought. I was extremely happy with my purchase until I noticed some paint bubbles around the edge of the hood. I thought that was odd for such a new vehicle having only 29,xxx miles so I googled it. Low and behold this is a known issue with many Fords dating back to at least 2007!! Needless to say I was PISSED. So I take it into the Ford dealer to have it fixed under the corrosion warranty since the 3yr/36 had expired already. The dealership took pictures of the damage and sent them into Ford for review. Well, it only took them about two hours to return a denial.

So now I'm extremely aggravated, Ford claims that in order for this to fall under "corrosion" there must actually be perforation on the vehicle. What kind of crap is that? The name of the actual problem with these aluminum hoods is "galvanic corrosion" so how does that NOT get covered under the corrosion warranty??

I have escalated this claim to a Customer Service Manager which was essentially a waste of time. I absolutely refuse to take no for an answer on this. If I have to escalate this up the chain to the CEO I have no problem doing so. This is a $50k vehicle with less than 30k miles on it, my 14 year old Tahoe didn't have any issues like this when I sold it so why should my new car?

First I would like to say our 2013 Explorer Sport first had the pretty common steering problem where the EPAS malfunctions and locks up your steering while driving. After being told by Ford that since there were no codes in the computer from the steering locking up they weren't going to do anything. It took lots of complaining and telling them I will not put my kids back in this car if they didn't fix or change out the steering rack. They finally did.

I still don't know if these are revised parts or the same failing parts. I then was washing my car and detailing the engine bay and noticed all the paint along the front edge of the hood is bubbling/lifting off. some areas the paint has already come off and other areas the paint is bubbled but not breached. This isn't going to look good for Ford when all there 3 year old explorers driving around have paint missing on the front under the name explorer. This is obviously an oversight of Ford.

If anyone knows how to get Ford to step up and pay please contact me. I feel Ford has come a long way and has great vehicles/engines now but when stuff like this happens they really have to step up and show there customers they care. The car was over $45000!!!

Bought this truck 2nd owner from Ford (Hawk ). It had 25000 miles on it , 2013. Bought it in 2015 of April, It's now April of 2016 , I've put roughly 12000 miles on it. When I purchased it I had a bug / rock deflector installed.

There was a ding in the window and a small dent in the front passenger side bumper which both were an easy fix. I keep this car clean not immaculate but clean, noticed a few weeks ago a chip at edge of hood, after further inspection there is bubbling and the paint cracking around the front just under the bug / rock deflector.

Showed it to HAWK FORD today, 4/06/2016. Service tells me its covered under warranty and to take it to the body shop around back. The manager there tells me it's not covered , ( 3 years or 36000 miles) I ask him what about the extended warranty (4000 dollars) nope doesn't matter. 40 grand and this kind of service is not acceptable, especially when they know there is a flaw. I have the 1997 Ford Explorer in the drive way, Which does have some rust but that took almost 20 years for god sake. I am far from done with this, he also told me he would fix it for 600 dollars and that is just the edge. I asked will this spread and his answer was most likely, so why spend 600 and have to have the hood totally redone? Better Business Bureau is next and so on.

We purchased this 2013 Explorer in Feb. 2015 used from Ford Sq. Mt.Vernon IL. with 52,+++ miles. Since our purchase we have already had one recall of the door locks. However we have noticed the paint on the hood bubbling and chipping. Dealership and Ford states it is no longer covered under warranty of 3yrs. 36,000 miles. Why wouldn't paint last on a vehicle longer than three years?????? I don't feel we are asking for anything unreasonable, we just want our hood repainted.

Went to "Huntington Beach" Ford to speak with the Service Manager regarding, this issue. Told him I always take my vehicle, to a car wash, and did not notice this until the last week in January 2016. He stated the WARRANTY, expired on December 28, 2015. He took some pictures and said he wold forward them to the Regional Manager, and see what they (Ford), would do. After calling several times and getting NO response, I call the Salesman who sold us the vehicle, he said to bring it in to their facility, "Los Cerritos Ford". Went to that location, and poke with a Service writer, because the Service Manager was too busy to speak with me. The Service writer, took some pictures and said for me to wait about 1-15 Mins, as he was sending the pictures to someone who would make a decision, on this issue. He then called me, back to his desk, and stated that Ford Motor Company was not going to do any thing, due to the fact the vehicle was OUT of the Warranty Period. I again explained to him this is not something that happened overnight! Did not make any difference. I have always been a GM buyer, and when I heard General Motors was opening 11 new plants in China, I decided to buy American, No more Government Motors China.

The a person, who identified himself as the Customer Service Manager, of Ford called, and stated that if I would take me vehicle to Huntington Beach Ford, they wold send it out to be repaintd, and Split the cost with me. I elected to have it done Myself, by out side vendor.

Purchased a certified explorer sport with 34,000 miles on it. Noticed what looked like rock dings covered by touch up paint on the front of the hood but assumed exactly that. I should have googled but how could I assume this was anything but normal wear. It has since corroded along the permitter of the hood. Contacted dealer January 2016 and the normal run around. Ford has since refused to pay and dealer continues to stall. Next step is legal action against the dealer. How unfortunate as I will never buy a ford again after this. This is the poorest I've ever been treated by a car manufacturer/dealer or any large company for that matter.

paint on hood bubbling around perimeter

My wife and I were washing the Explorer yesterday. She noticed the bubbling paint on the hood edge behind the drivers headlight. I am very disappointed to see this problem. I am going to my dealer and see what they will do to correct the problem. I hope I have better luck than the other 30+ people that reported the same issue on this site.

One morning while getting to the vehicle I noticed the paint bubble on the hood. I now, four months later, notice the bubble has grown. Is it only a matter of time before the bubble bursts and the paint flakes off? Of course the bubble appeared just as the 3yr/36000 mile warranty expired. I mentioned it to the service rep when I had my oil changed and he stated that he had not hear of that problem on Explorer, and since it's no longer under warranty, I would have to pay to have it fixed.

What really annoys me is that Ford has had this problem with their vehicles since 2000. They know about the problem but have not and will not fix it. I also have a radio problem that was discovered out of warranty, and guess what it was a known Ford problem. Recently the passenger dual zone heater was only blowing cold air. The out of warranty fix cost $365. It was the temperature blend door actuator. There was a service bulletin about this problem on early models. Again Ford has a problem with their quality and willingness to own up to it.

The result is this is my last Ford product. I have been a loyal customer and exclusively bought Ford products since 1973.

2013 Explorer, paint is bubbling and chipping along the front and side edges of the hood. The Ford rep said "your out of the 36,000 mile warranty, so it's not covered under warranty". A $52,000, 3 year old vehicle and the paint is chipping?? This problem along with all of the other problems we have had (SYNC system, transmission, head gasket, fuel pumps (2 replaced), trim falling off, etc.) this is the last Ford product we will ever buy. Rolling pile of junk!!
