CarComplaints.com Notes: Power steering problems started rearing their ugly head in the 2010 Fusion, so you'd think Ford had plenty of time to make sure those problems didn't creep into the 2012. But here we are.

The Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) is a mess. It fails at an alarming rate. Don’t believe us? Take a look at NHTSA’s data on the subject.

And much like the power steering, we’re still seeing the same throttle body failures that started in 2010 continue in 2012.

The advancetrac system has gone bad, forcing me to lose power steering and power to the engine. Incredibly hard to diagnose the exact problem. Replaced multiple sensors and fuses and issue still exist.

I was on my way home from work and the lights just came on for no reason. Steering wheel locks on sharp turns at slow speeds. Cuts off bluetooth when it happens. ABS, traction and brake light come on. I looked on cars.com and saw a recall in 2015 for this same thing. I got my car in early 2016. Under my VIN it says the power steering was serviced in 2014 before they even knew about the recall. Now the Ford dealerships don't see the 2015 recall in their computers. This is extremely dangerous and I don't want to get into an accident. Please help me.

"takata recall" I received the notification concerning the airbag recall in the mail the day before the vehicle was involved in an accident and was eventually considered to be a total loss. The airbag in the drivers side did deploy and pieces of what I thought were glass were embedded in my skin on my left hand though there wasn't any glass in that area that seemed to be loose. I also noticed that the airbag continued to burn for an extremely long time. The accident occurred and after all parties were evaluated and the road was cleared a bit, the tow truck arrived and the steering column still had smoke coming from the airbag region which the paramedic mentioned seemed to be longer that usual for it to still be smoking. This accident occurred while, Y vehicle was in motion and hit a stopped car which then hit another vehicle on a city street while driving in the forwards position.

The vehicle was parked in my driveway upon returning from errands. The next morning the power steering assist and the advancetrac system failure lights were on. This has happened before while driving and after parking at my workplace. Usually restarting the vehicle would correct the issue. This time it would not reset and I brought it to the Ford dealership where it was purchased. I understand there was a recall on the 2012 Ford Fusion and other Ford makes for this same issue. However the dealership says the VIN # on my Fusion doesn't match any current recall and will not cover the cost of repair. My question is if this is a known Ford problem why should it not cover my vehicle with the same issue for recall ? just because the VIN # isn't in the system is no reason not to fix this. It is a known problem, many situations exactly like mine recorded online. How are they (Ford)not responsible?

I was traveling down a main street and I heard a beep and power steering assist fault lite up on my dash as well with service advancetrac came on so I pull off the road and into a parking lot and my wheel all the sudden got stiff. I sat there for a few trying to figure out what was wrong and I turned the car off and let it sit for a few mins and turned it back on hoping it would go away well it didn't, so I got it home finally 6 hours later still with all them lights on and the wheel being stiff let it sit over night and everything next day I go back to the car hoping once again it would go away and it didn't.

Luckily while parked, wife started up her 2012 Fusion to go to work. Power assist fault and service advancetrac display in info screen and car has no power steering or traction control. Had vehicle diagnosed, fault codes U3000 and U2011 were present. Called dealership who said no open recall on VIN. Recall 15S18 does not cover my VIN even though the car fits all of the criteria for the recall including date and manufacture location. Ford cust. Service unwilling to help. Parts covered by the recall were replaced on Sept. 13, 2016 by local Ford dealer at previous owners expense, parts failed again less than a year later. These parts are not safe and Ford is unwilling to fix the problem or extend recall to all vehicles affected by this electronic power assist failure. I've read hundreds of similar complaints now, what does it take to hold Ford accountable for the safety of their products?

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact was experiencing issues with the steering column in the vehicle. The dealer inspected and repaired the vehicle, but provided no written diagnosis to verify what was repaired. In addition, the traction control and eps warning indicators randomly flashed. As a result, the power steering and traction control failed randomly. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15V340000 (steering). In addition, the TPMS warning indicator illuminated several times. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The dealer made no mention of NHTSA campaign number: 17V024000 (air bags). The contact was to check with the manufacturer to determine when the recall repair would be performed. The failure mileage was not available. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Unaware that my throttle control transmission was defective. My car shut off, while I was driving at approximately 35/40 mph, on a bend entering a bridge and I was almost hit by a bus. When I started car up again, it went into limp mode and it creeped until I got to a safe area and had to have it towed. Ford repaired it for free after I made numerous calls but I had to pay for a rental which cost me $140. If I had been traveling down a major highway, I couldve been killed. I never received notification of this defective part. Also, my evaporator sensor went bad in my Fusion. A known defective part in earlier years up to my year car. The car is only 4 years old and I have no air conditioning. The part is a $20 defective part but the repairs cost over $600 because the entire dash needs torn apart. I feel that since Ford knew of this defect, this should also be repaired free of charge. I have a handicapped son who needs air conditioning and financially I cannot afford to pay such a large sum of money to replace this well known defective part.

Mu 2012 Ford Fusion lost power to the steering on the highway so when I pulled the steering wheel hard so I can get to the side of the highway when I finally got to to the side of the highway I turned the car off and turned it back on the steering wheel will not move and a message on the dashboard appears and say service "power steering know" so I had to call a tow truck and when it got to the dealership they said it is a problem with electronic steering rack and pinion faulty and it would cost me 1,500 dollers to get it fix so I started researching on the NHTSA website and found out it was a recall but my car was not affected and I don't know how cause its alot of people with this same problem with their 2012 Ford Fusion.

Driving at 60 mph I could hear friction worsens and car would lose momentum easily because of the friction. Then I start to hear a knocking sound somewhere in the engine perhaps or the wheel unsure and as all that worsens, I can feel the car losing control like it's gotten a flat tire. Power steering got stiffer while the car kind of drifted left and then right as tho I was going to lose control of the vehicle. It was really scary so I immediately slowed down because I had no control on the steering.

Saturday, Oct 31st, the low tire pressure was indicated and verified the right-front tire was low when the car was started. I drove the car 3000 feet about 25 mph and service advancetrac and power steering assist fault displayed. Brought the car to the dealership and they claim the tires need replacing. Excluding the low pressure in one tire, there should have not been a failure and the tires are not bald.

While driving car warning indicator on cluster flashed "service advance track now, but car continued to drive fine. Parked car at store and upon return and starting of car pulled out of parking lot and had no power steering almost impossible to steer car at this point, then warning on dash displayed "service power steering now", and "service advanced trak now". was able to get car to dealer, but as of today 7/2/2015 the dealer has not been able to fix it. And has stated over the last week and a half that parts have been ordered and may be in any day, but can not provide a time frame for the parts or the fix.
