CarComplaints.com Notes: Power steering problems started rearing their ugly head in the 2010 Fusion, so you'd think Ford had plenty of time to make sure those problems didn't creep into the 2012. But here we are.

The Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) is a mess. It fails at an alarming rate. Don’t believe us? Take a look at NHTSA’s data on the subject.

And much like the power steering, we’re still seeing the same throttle body failures that started in 2010 continue in 2012.

My car is having trouble with the power streeting wheel. As I was driving my car the wheel tighten up and it was hard for me to turn. Power streering at fault is what flashes on the dashbored. I use my car to go to school and work and right now it's hard for me to do so. I went to the car dealer ship and they want two grand to fix it! they say I need rack and pinion.

Numerous times I have been driving and the power steering fault warning would flash across the display. When I tried to restart the car, the display changes warnings and says "power steering fault" or "severice power steering now". had a local mechanic clear out the code and steering would go back to normal...everything has been fine since but now the steering wheel makes a whining/weird sound when turning the wheel under 10mph and its very stiff when trying to turn but once I get over 10mph it loosens up and is normal...my car isn't currently under any recall but I feel like the power steering should be under recall if its a continuous issue

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the anti traction stabilizing system warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer sunnyside motor co., Inc. (944 main St, holden, MA 01520; (508) 829-4333) who stated that the sensor assembly was replaced. The failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 33,000.

If my car sits at idle for too long like stuck in traffic or waiting at a drive thru the maintenance light comes on and it will not shift. The rpms rev up but it acts like it is stuck. It won't move over a few mph. Then if you shift it into neutral it makes a loud noise and the whole car jerks like the transmission is about to fall out. I shut the car off and started it again and it will not shift right. You can floor the gas and it barely moves then it will come out of it and drive fine until you have to sit idle again. It is very dangerous and I have tried everything to fix it at multiple mechanics shops and nothing works. Have changed multiple sensors and it always seems to happen again.07

Electrical power steering not working (see receipt below) 8/11/2017: Case # [xxx] for: $1784 March 30 2012 -build date Ford recall 15S18 although my car was excluded from the recall 15S18, my car did same thing that recall stated: The steering wheel locked up while driving at night alone in houston and was put in extreme harm bc it stopped completely on hwy 1314 and would not move. Also, my car meets all the requirements to the recall and is only excluded because it was built only 2 weeks outside of the recall time frame. Because I experienced the exact description listed in recall and because my car meets all the necessary requirements of vehicles included that Ford recalled (except that was built only 2 weeks outside of the date), I request remedy of reimbursement for my vehicle repair and damages. (I was without car for 2 weeks and unable to work and I am a single mom in school with no help from Ford). I had to put the cost on my credit card and unable to pay, so I need the interest cost of credit card as well.). thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

My powersteering and advantrac both are still acting crazy. I was told that my VIN wasn't apart of the same recall that is currently issued for my 2012 Ford Fusion. At random times the powersteering notfication and advanctrac alert with come and my steering will with completely lock up with very little time from the alert. This has happened with both intown and highway driving.

My cars power steering has completely ceased up. I bought it used just over a year ago in July 2018. The light has come on for service along with the traction control light. My car has roughly 170,000 miles, maybe a little less. In looking up this issue, there is a disturbing amt of people with the exact issue who have actually had accidents because of this. Luckily I have not but my car is now worthless as there is no way I'll be able to afford the repairs yet I still have to pay for the loan. My car was in motion when this happened however my boyfriend was driving on the highway, roughly at 70mph, and was able to continue driving. I dont have the muscle to do this, nor am I taking the risk. I also know my VIN is not covered under the recall but Ford should know by now that there is obviously something going on with other cars not covered by the recall. This problem needs to be resolved! someone is going to get killed if they havent already. It's not right to just ignore this issue. Something needs to be done.

I couldn't believe my car lost power just like that. 71K miles no warning before that day of steering problems.

Last week I received a recall for the airbags on my vehicle. Before I called for an appointment, I checked the recall on line and noticed the steering is also being recalled. Two days later while driving, lights started going off on my dashboard. The steering and tsc lights were blinking and ringing. I had no idea what to do! I read the dashboard which said check my power steering fluid, ther is no fluid well"?" I called my Ford dealer and was told ' we will fix the airbag, but have no idea about the steering issues, my car has no recall for that' I told them I was looking right at the recall notice, and since I wasn't notified, they can't fix it. I told her I cannot drive the vehicle that the car won't steer, she told me to have it towed in. I have purchased a 1990 Bronco I, a 1999 Ford Ranger and a 2007 escape from this same dealer. These vehicles have as follows: 660K,588K and 290K miles on them. My Ranger still has the original muffler. Is this the way I should be treated. If the car has been recalled for steering, which you can easily see from the tire wear, than why doesn't Ford stand up and repair it, since there is a recall. I could fix it myself, but Ford has blocked the computer usage, do I need to bypass that also. I'm a simple man who loves his Ford. I brag constantly about my vehicles. I brag constantly about my dealer. I feel betrayed!!!

When I purchased my vehicle it had no recalls that I was aware because I was told a vehicle can't be sold with a recall. I began having problems with the power steering and the steering when it rains had to pull over because the car started to tail spin I was very scared the vehicle began to fish tail and because of the power steering problem had minimal control.this is a very expensive repair which should not be pasted on to there customers.I was told by Ford they can't help me.I am the new owner so Ford should fix my problems with this car.it is a safety
