CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2000 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, subframe rust, & problems with the airbag system (SRS). We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.

The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.

Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.

The SRS warning light likes to come on due to a defective seat belt sensor -- typically the driver's side. This sensor is covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but some dealers charge a $100+ "diagnostic fee" or tell customers the entire SRS unit ($800) is bad.

Car was taken to the moreno valley Honda and spreen Honda regarding transmission problems and we were told that the transmission was fine. My husband owns a transmission repair shop and had to tell spreen Honda what was wrong with the transmission. I finally called Honda's main office and it took them about a week to remedy the problem. Home office contacted the dealer and requested the transmission be replaced. Spreen Honda had the car for several weeks and did not offer rental car or reimbursement. Terrible customer service all around. My husband could have fixed the problem but the car was about 2 years old and under warranty when the problems started to occur. The brakes are constantly squeeking even after replacement. The material on the rear interior door handles has melted. Passenger seat belts are extremely tight. This 2000 Honda Accord SE has been a total disappointment.

Sirs:we have had two problems with our 2000 Accord ex from time of purchase that our dealer, crown Honda, has been unable to resolve. The first problem is the car has a stutter within the first mile driven when started. The second is a problem with the supplemental restraint system.

Because SRS warning light did not go off after starting vehicle, it was taken to dealership. Dealership believes that the problem is with the seat belts. Vehicle has been at the dealership for a month waiting for part(s) to correct this problem. The dealer installed temporary replacement but it failed within a month.

Engine check light went on twice. Took vehicle to dealer, and they said fuel filler: Cap was not on properly. Then, it was electrical system causing engine light to come on. A week later, SRS light came on, indicating something wrong with airbag and seatbelts.

Unless the front passenger seat is in the full-back position, and has been pushed hard to lock it into position, it is very difficult to get it to lock in position if the position is changed when a passenger enters the rear seat. The result is that after the front passenger is seated and the car begins to move, the seat will usually freely move forward or backward, unless the passenger has figured out how to move the seat fore-aft lever down into the locked position while gently moving the seat forward or back. Normally I warn passengers of this problem, but none seem able to accomplish the locking of the seat in a midway fore-aft position without endangering the knees of the rear seat passenger. I have not taken the car into the dealer yet due to time constraints, and no one has been injured because I have warned them about the seat. Still, this car should not have left the factory without the passenger seat lock working easily and predictably.
