My Maxima starts up fine, and immediately stalls out, when started again, fails to get up enough power, and backfires, and starts sputtering, or puttering, with no power, however, there is no check engine light on, not sure where to proceed with it. With the high cost of repair garages, am trying to troubleshoot this symptom myself, and possibly repair, any suggestion out there of what it might be??? I just had the spark plugs changed, along with the 6 coil packs. and again, there is no check engine light coming on. "strange"

I have a 2000 Maxima SE, runs roughly and I hear a hissing noise when I step on the gas pedal. If I step on the gas pedal more then halfway to get on a parkway, the RPM's race up to 5000 and the car doesn't move. It stays at the same speed. I took it in to the dealer for a diagnostic check and they can't figure it out. What do you think it could possibly be. Thanks for your help.

My car started out idling hard. As winter came it started stalling immediately after starting it. It was also making a crackling noise out the muffler. I put some 44k in to try and clean out the fuel injector. About 3 days later my check engine light came on. I took the car in and was told I had to replace the mass airflow sensor. Fun. :( Nissan did not cover any of the costs.

I am having the same problem... I took my car to Nissan and they say it is the O2 Sensor, however they told me to go ahead and continue to drive until it got bad. However, It has gotten bad... It starts fine.. However until it warms up I get a sluggish take off. When I excelarate.. It takes time for it to increase speed. It helps when I use higher octane gas.. but still is a problem.

The Engine light is coming on, when I start the car, the car is start chocking, for few seconds, its like dying, but after minutes it runs good. I put Fuel Injector in the Gas tank, and I use premium Gas, but the light is on. I check with local diagnostic shop and they said it's not Oxy. Sensor.
