The steering lock assembly is a known faulty part with 2009 and 2010 Maximas. It also affects 370Zs and GTRs from the same year. Nissan issues an extended warranty for 2009 Maximas only, which was for 6 years/unlimited miles, whichever came first, which would always be 6 years.

My car is not yet 6 years old but the steering lock assembly is faulty in my car. It caused my car not to start at all, which is what I have found has happened to all other cars affected with this same problem. Nissan assisted other customers with 2010 Nissan Maximas, but they were not interested in helping me because I have too many miles on my car and there is no warranty, they said. I understand there is no warranty, but because this is a known Nissan problem, they should have issued the same warranty to 2010 Maximas since it is affecting these cars just the same as the 2009s. If the same warranty would have been issued to 2010s, I would still be within the 6 year time frame and would have been covered. I had to pay $869.17 for the part, $83 to be towed to the dealership, and $35 for a rental car from the dealer.

Nissan has not issued a recall or warranty, and as I have discovered online doing research for this part, they should issue one because it is affecting a lot of people. I kept the faulty part to send to Nissan, but they were not interested in receiving it, since they just dismissed my case.

The car just would not start. Nissan dealer wants $1000 to fix (Steering locking column.). Good for them, they have to feed the family too. But, Nissan should step up and fix this. I am a Nissan owner since 1997 but this is not the Nissan I know. I will be, unfortunately, looking outside of Nissan soon. Extended warranty will not even cover this
