This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. The contact noticed that the chrome paint was peeling from the door handle, causing a sharp texture. The contact sustained a hand injury from the failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the door handle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000.
I'm hoping you can get these issues recalled. As I have researched around the web, I had come to find that these issues are very common among GM/Chevy brand. People should not have to pay out of their own pockets to fix something that is unsafe and defective. Here are the issues below: Interior: Plastic cover for "chrome" door handle is very sharp my wife has cut herself. Exterior: Door handles come loose and already has pinched a several fingers.
I own a 2007 Chevy Avalanche ltz. I have just broken the third exterior door hanlde, two have already been replaced at my cost. The first two were the rear doors, and now the passenger door which receives very limited use.
December 2010, while just opening my door normally to enter the vehicle... my exterior drivers door handle broke off of its mount. Took to a GM authorized service center and it was repaired for approx $160. It is now January 21st, 2011, just a few weeks later, and the same thing has now happened to the drivers side rear passenger door. The exterior door handle broke off. I am not the only person having this problem with my vehicle as I have found numerous others across the country complaining of the same thing. If I had a child in the vehicle where there was an emergency and I could not get to that child because the door handles break then this could be a potentially huge issue. I have never had a door handle break off in any other vehicle I have ever owned or tried opening....and now 2 in about 6 weeks. GM states it is not covered and they are unwilling to cooperate.

I have a 2007 Chevy Avalanche with the interior driver door handle chrome splitting and leaving a razor sharp edge that has drawn blood. The split is along the seam on the top edge of the handle.
