On August 13, 2015, my 2006 Corvette would not shift out of reverse. The car was stuck in that reverse gear and the shift lever was not enabling the selection of another gear. The shifter mechanism on this automatic equipped vehicle was operational, but the linkage to the transmission was no longer engaged. The car was being pulled into the garage when this happened, so fortunately I was not in a busy intersection, in a parking lot, or in some other location where I, or someone else, might have been in harm's way due to a vehicle that I could no longer control. Since the car could not be put in neutral or park, I had to turn off the vehicle with it in reverse and use the parking brake to keep the car from moving. Since the shifter mechanism could still move, the switch activating the "ok to start" would have allowed the car to start when put in the park or neutral positions - while the transmission was still stuck in reverse; a real safety issue. The cause of the problem was a 50 cent bushing that attaches to the shift lever. This bushing allows the ball end connector of the shifter to engage a shifter cable that actuates the linkage to the transmission. So when that bushing breaks, you can no longer shift the car. This has happened to many, many people owning the generations of C5 (1997-2004) and C6 (2005-2013) Corvettes. You can read a sample thread with pictures here: www.corvetteforum.com/forums/C6-Corvette-general-discussion/3482107-C6-automatic-shifter-broken-need-help-replacing-transmission-shifter-module.html or here (and there are many more!) www.corvetteforum.com/forums/C5-general/2684621-broken-shifter-linkage-fix-with-pics.html the part replaced (the bushing) failed because of plastic deterioration, the pictures in the above links show the broken part and the part obtained to repair the problem. This problem needs serious attention!

Have excessive noise coming from valve train.called Chevrolet customer service to inquire about cause and information about repair.was told no known problems and vehicle was no longer under warrantyi took car to katech in Michigan to have the motor checked and repaired if needed.the clearance on the valve guides were way beyond GM spec and had deformed my valves weakening them to the point of certain failure.I payed thousands of dollars to repair.I do not feel that a car with so liitle miles should need such an expensive repair.Chevrolet has refused to acknowledge this problem that if left unchecked would lead to engine failure resulting in an unsafe condition for driver passenger and other motorists..

Vehicle will not shift to park after starting engine and engaging the brake. Tried restarting and shifting the car into reverse several times and it finally went into reverse after approximately 10 minutes of trying. The vehicle was on a flat surface. After reading news and forum articles, this seems to be a commonly known problem, with the only fix being to replace the shifter assembly. GM does not however want to address this. This should be a recall item.

I bought this Corvette Z06 used from a private party. The engine had a catastrophic failure due to a known issue with the valve guides and valves in the LS7 motor from the factory. I was driving home from work when the motor failed. I was lucky to be only a mile from home when it failed and I was able to coast into my garage. The exhaust valve dropped and destroyed the #1 piston along with that cylinder, and the engine block. Nothing in the motor is salvageable as it bent or sent metal shards into every part of the motor. I have tried several times to get Chevy to help me with this motor, but they will not help at all. They know about the problem, but will not lift a finger to help anyone.

After starting car, it had trouble shifting in gear. After pulling on gear selector, it went in drive, but wouldn't go in reverse or park. The car wouldn't come out of accessory power mode, and I wasn't able to park the car on a hill as it had to stay in neutral or drive. There is no way to secure the car when this happens. The repair shop tells me this is a common issue on these cars.

I noticed that there's a recall on a number of GM cars due to a shift cable problem. I've known a number of fellow Corvette owners, with the year model 2005 thru 2009, that have had the cable break. I just wanted to make the NHTSA aware of the problem in case you've seen more complaints regarding it and a recall might be warranted.

The lurch drops to the floor under acceleration, happens from a stop and under most any speed. This causes damage to the clutch causing a strong smell of burnt clutch. Dealers say I am abusing the car even though this happens sometimes under normal driving. When the clutch drops to the floor you can not shift, accurate, of disengage the clutch to prevent damage. ( damaged clutch causes chatter and slippage resulting in the dealer saying the clutch needs to be replaced) after searching the internet I found many people were having this problem. From what I can gather it is cause by a design flaw that lets the clutch fluid dirty over time. In the manual, it stats that the clutch guild does not need to be check regularly. I have read that this issue affect newer corvettes as well.

Massive engine failure due to a failed exhaust valve after inspection, car lost all power and was immobile after rolling to a stop. The 7 and 8 cylinder on the block were completely ventilated. This is a very common problem with 2006-2011 corvettes and many others have had the same issue.what happens is the head of the exhaust valve falls off and then it makes contact with the piston and takes out the block and piston and rods. Please investigate this as there is several hundred or more Z06 equipped with the LS7 motor that has had the same issue. It is a safety concern and imho there should be some kind of recall on these motors.

The support bearings in the torque tube for the drive shaft failed. This causes a vibration noise of variable intensity. A simple investigation of the problem revealed that this is a problem with the C6 models.
