CarComplaints.com Notes: In many ways, the 2012 Cruze continues the legacy of its predecessor. It's a legacy of sluggish transmissions and coolant leaks, but it's still a legacy.

To be fair, the number of complaints about the cooling system are way down versus the 2011 model which led to a class-action lawsuit.

On the flip-side, there's more concerns about brake problems.

However, there were far more Cruze vehicles sold for the 2012 model year so we'll give it our "Beware of this Clunker" badge rather than the "Avoid Like the Plague."

I just had the recall done on my 2012 Cruze for a micro-switch replacement on the brakes. I had the tires rotated and oil changed at the same time. Now I have a vibration under the gas pedal and the brake that were never there before, and you can hear the tires on the road now...When you go to stop and get down to 22 - 23mph, you can hear the brakes on the tires and hear the tires squall on the road like I'm driving some diesel truck. The noise from the front tires/brakes are so loud inside the car even when the windows are up it gives me a headache every time I drive it. I didn't have this squealing problem till they fixed the recall and the tires rotated. I have plenty of tread on the tires, so it has to be something in the brakes or on the car. I'm so disgusted with this Cruze, I hate driving it now. I'll never buy another one.

Same issue now going on for 1 year with the rear brakes making noise. Have been back to this dealer ship and they continue to be helpful. They advise me that they may have a fix now but have to check. Spoke to another customer and she stated she was having the same issue with the noise on the rear brakes. It is very fustrating that GM has taken this long to come up with a fix or make an effort to supply tech a better fix since they have exhausted all they could.

Problem still happening since car was first bought and GM has no fix for this issue for the techs to fix the noise coming from the rear brakes.

Same issue on this started from day one we bought the car. Dealership and Tech have been amazing but the issues is with GM not supplying proper modification for this problem. Car first bought 2/2012 and should have been a clue that that our 2011 Cruze had the same issue with the brake noise.

Car is back in for rear back brake noise, over a year of visiting the dealer (do not blame them, GM manufactured the car, not the dealer) and getting to know the service tech, the van pool drivers looks like the rear noise is now finally fixed. I am so disappointed with GM, they are now reaching out to see what they can do after a year worth of complaints on the brakes and the length of time it took them to come up with a fix. GM had the nerve to call and say for your time due to the problems we would like to offer you one year of On Star, really when I get free navigation on my phone. Customer Service for GM really sucks, they need to take direction from the dealer I have been working with. When I would make it late to the dealer ship and need a ride home, the techs/associates would make every efforts to ensure I got home one way or another. I politely declined the offer for the 1 year of "free" On Star really free after all the hours, time, gas I spent going back an forth. For an adult I would not recommend this car but a teenager or young adult it is a nice car to whip around town.

Been taking car in for back rear noise and they keep telling me they fixed it. When I leave it sounds fine, as soon as I drive a couple of miles noise starts again. This time they tried to advise me that I drove with the brake on and the thing is I NEVER set the hand brake since I park the car in the garage all the time. So they said they "sand drums and shoes adjust". This did not fix the problem.
