CarComplaints.com Notes: In many ways, the 2012 Cruze continues the legacy of its predecessor. It's a legacy of sluggish transmissions and coolant leaks, but it's still a legacy.

To be fair, the number of complaints about the cooling system are way down versus the 2011 model which led to a class-action lawsuit.

On the flip-side, there's more concerns about brake problems.

However, there were far more Cruze vehicles sold for the 2012 model year so we'll give it our "Beware of this Clunker" badge rather than the "Avoid Like the Plague."

I got gas on June 1st and not even 15 miles afterwords my check engine light came on. I checked to make sure the gas cap was on properly and light still did not go off. I took car to get obdii read and it stated that the mass air flow sensor was bad and also the fuel injectors as well. One mechanic stated it was from bad gas but was unable to prove it. I have done personal research and found that the PCV is clogged and needs to be replaced or cleaned. The car proceeds to run "rough" and stalls when placed in park. I however don't notice a problem when in manual gear.

Car does not run right. When accelerating the car does not budge and stalls out. Found out if the ac is off it is less likely to stall out after stopping. Was told it is a possible clogged catalytic converter. The stabilitrak and traction control wanings pop up. Took it to auto zone and they told me it was bad gas. Something is off and it's not a easy diagnosis.

Overheating. Loud noise in engine with loss of power that we determined to be the turbo. Cars breaks have been changed several times since purchase. Consistent warning lights on dash. The car has a very loud rattling sound when driving. It isn't as lound when sitting still at a redlight.

2012 Cruze lt. The third turbo was installed 2 days before extended warranty expired. It has 56668 miles now. I spent 4 hours putting glue putty in the cracks on the bottom intake manifold, to plenum junction corners of cylinders 2 and 4 because of the GM plastic [xxx], curing the low boost and lean mixture codes at idle, on easter. The first month I had the car the transmission would start in first skip second gear rev up then chirp the tires until it warmed up, and was fixed by a program change to a lesser version and now at the higher mileage it waits before it engages first at all. Another neat thing is to turn left at 5mph hard and feel the car do a jig to the right for an instant before continuing on with the turn. Lastly, the water pump was replaced along with a cracked water outlet but not the rotted recirculation overflow hose that broke at 4 am to my fishing hole in September. I can say that the 2017 Cruze must be better because the dumdums paid by the GM insurance company to change oil put more new oil in the motor without draining it first. No serious issues for a whole week I might be able to drive it by may it's been 5 months since then. Fyi the dealership who performed this fancy work is not in riverton either.

While driving, on at least four occasions, I have lost power completely, causing all electrical functionings to stop, making me lose ability to accelerate, causing my lights to shut off, and all other functionalities of the car, besides steering and using inertia, resulting in pulling over without endangering myself or other drivers. There also seems to be a skipping or jumping involving the fuel injection when accelerating, which makes speed regulation irregular, sporadic, and does not allow the driver to make accurate judgements on the cars capabilities concerning timing and distance to other drivers. Recently, I was in motion driving through chatanooga, tn, where it is mountainous and has steep hills, during nighttime, so visibility was lessened, and danger, due to the type of road it was, was increased. While going downhill, luckily, with other cars around me traveling at 70 mph, my car just shut off, completely. I lost the ability to accelerate, my lights shut off, almost causing an accident with the cars around me. Luckily, I pulled onto the shoulder without any damages. This happened again, about two months ago, at a stop light. I began to accelerate, and in the middle of the intersection, my car shut off, I had to coast off of the road, lost all acceleration, and again almost was involved in an accident.

On August 19, 2017, I was on the road, drove passed South center mall when I felt that there was something wrong with my engine because it wasn't driving fast as usual. I pulled over to the side of the road, at inspirus credit union in tukwila to check the engine if it was okay when I smelled a faint scent of smoke. I drove back home to park it for fear of the engine exploding. Our family mechanic checked the engine and said that the fan is too loud as if something is causing it to be overworked. The engine fan has always been loud after my oil change on July 21, 2017. The engine light has not been turned off since the oil change and I know that there is something wrong with the vehicle. Also, I entered the VIN number online and it said that the recall on my car is incomplete. The dealer did not inform me about the recall nor mentioned anything about it when I bought it. They did not give me a written letter of the recall or even specified the recall being incomplete.

I recently had a diagnostic done on my 2012 Chevy Cruze eco 1.4 liter. The code read as P069E, fuel pump control module. I have had issue with the instrument panel not showing accurate fuel levels. Sometimes if the fuel goes below half a tank it reads empty for a few days or a week, even if I fill up the tank it still reads empty. This can be dangerous, especially on long trips and I have a long commute in and out of different cities. I have had this issue since I have had the car at 1100 miles when I got it. I currently have about 108000 miles. I used to think it was the fuel pump, but recently learned it could be a few things like the fuel line pressure sensor, fuel pump mra, wiring, circuit issues, or the fuel pump control module. And the fuel pump control module seems to be the main issue or so I have heard. It would be great if this could be resolved, it is not good driving around with a defective fuel system.

I have a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze eco, within a year I had to have the turbocharger replaced. Before I had it replace I brought it to the dealer with complaints of losing power and the smell of gas and exhaust. They said working as normal; within days it started making a loud noise. I call onstar to do a diagnosis' it was my turbocharger. It was fix but a few days later it smelt like fumes again. Took it in and they said working as normal. A year later the turbocharger went out again and I paid 1200 to have it fix. Long story short I'm still smelling exhaust even after having all the recalls fix. Now my stability traction control light came on the off again. This car was a lemon from the beginning but I'm out of warranty. I thought by now they would of had a recall on their turbocharger and the oil line that they say that keeps getting block and the exhaust smelll. Is anyone working on all these complaints?

My 2012 Chevy Cruze eco suddenly lost power and acceleration was very poor on 10/29/2016. Almost got hit trying to pull out from a stop sign because the power was no longer there to take off. After having an auto mechanic shop look at the car on 10/31/2016 we discovered that the oil line from the block or where the oil supply comes from for the turbo had been a plastic line that had melted and stopped oil from flowing to the turbo charger. This appears to be a poor design on GM's part to use plastic lines for something that will obviously be transferring hot oil. It seems to have caused the turbo to burn up and also created an exhaust leak. I am still waiting on a final price from the mechanic shop to find out how much damage was done. They have called me today 11/1/2016 and asked that I come in so they can show me more damage they have found as a result of this line melting. I have spoken to one of the owners at [xxx] family of dealerships and they were of no help stating that it is out of warranty. Really" it is a defective design flaw so why should I be having to pay for the repair" I would like some help with this issue please! I know I have 140000+/- miles on the car but it has been mostly highway miles and maintenance has always been done on the vehicle. I use this for my work and family vehicle so it is not driven hard or abused in anyway. I hate the fact of turning in a complaint that involves a dealer that I have recommended to so many people in the past but he was of no help at all and really showed no concern that there was an issue like this with a vehicle that he had sold. Brought my car in for what looked like intake seals and found out that the intake manifold manifold is cracked. I called many other auto repair places and found that this is a massive problem and can only be gotten from the dealer and I will be getting one of the last in this area at the cost of $450 plus time. The car started running ruff and has 9 different codes all relating to a lean condition.

Driving my car at about 25mph started to hear a rattle in it. When went to accelerate the car started to smoke and had no power. When idling you could hear the motor "work" and it had a jump in it. Only has 50,000 miles and has never been driven hard. Of course it's out of warranty now and I have no clue why it wouldn't accelerate and started smoking. The engine light came on and was still on when I left my car sitting on the side of the road.

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. After filling the vehicle with fuel, the contact started the vehicle and it made a sputtering noise and began to shake. The contact stated that the engine warning indicator was consistently illuminated. The contact turned the key to the off position; however, the engine did not power off. It took several attempts to power the engine off. The contact released the accelerator pedal and kept the vehicle parked for approximately five minutes until the shaking and sputtering ceased. The failure recurred on several occasions when fueling the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that an unknown sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.

I have noticed that the acceleration takes alot to go from 0-30 mph and when it does the car feels as though it will stall. There is a half tank of gas, and no indication it should be doing this. Oil is changed regularly. This has happened a few times before this incident of today. The gas pedal needs to be almost to the floor for it to even pick up and when it does accelerate it jumps between the gears and the RPM goes beyond 4-5 to get it to even 20mph. I did have an incident when the car stalled as I was in reverse. That happened at around 30-35K miles. I decided to google the acceleration issue and see I am not the only one. My car itself has had 3 recalls fixed.
