I bought a 2005 Equinox from a dealer and the first day I had the car I had an issue with getting it started. I have to wiggle it a lot in order to get the car started it can take me up to 5 to 10 minutes. This is not safe at all, what about if I was not in a safe situation and I want to just get in my car and go, this wouldn't make it possible. I thought it was just my car but I see other people have issues with the same thing. I will take back to dealer and see if they can do something about it.

The ignition switch is another messed up Chevrolet ignition switch. It should have to be replaced just like all the other ones by Chevrolet.

Equinox LT 3.4L

  • Automatic transmission

When you start the car, it doesn't usually start the first time unless you pump the gas while starting, after starting you can remove the key without shutting off the ignition, a couple of times it has dropped out.

In 2012 my ignition switch messed up. I would insert the key & the switch would not budge. It started out just being somewhat difficult but very soon after it would take 5-10 minutes to get it to turn enough to crank my car.

Now let's back up to 2011. On July 4th I was out of state visiting friends & headed home around 7 p.m. I was on a 4 lane hwy in the passing lane going approximately 55 mph & all of a sudden my car died. God's grace alone got me across the right lane & off the road safely. It would not crank so I had to call my friends to come get me. The person who towed it for me said it was the 2nd Equinox in a year that they towed with the same problem.

Back to 2012 & the ignition switch...I am sure both problems are related. I took it to our local Chevrolet dealership. They repaired it for close to $400.00. They did it all wrong tho. First, they replaced the tumblers & that is why it cost so much. Shortly after that, I had the exact same problem, took it back & they replaced the ignition switch. As of a couple weeks ago, I have the exact same problem again. I am 100% sure that it is the same problem as all the GM cars being recalled right now & yet the Equinox is NOT on the recall list. I am terrified of the engine cutting off again in busy traffic & yet after talking with GM Customer Service & the local dealership no one is giving me the info I need to get in touch with someone about recalls. I can get it fixed for parts only price of $225 but I will be getting another faulty ignition switch so what do I do????

ignition switch will not turn.left me stranded all weekend.no Chevy dealerships in my area.all chevy dealerships 45 minutes away in the neighboring county.:( I tried to get area dealers to order parts, but wasn't possible. auto parts stores told me it would take anywhere from 1-4 days to come in, they dont stock equinox parts. This was a real boomer. And it just so happened to be Mother's Day weekend. Hope this doesn't depict how my Mother's Day will be.
