CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Equinox is plagued by a heating problem, as in the heater only blows cold air.

The reported cause of this problem is a small door, known as the air temperature blend door, which allows air to flow past the heater core. This door has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The problem has a typical repair cost of over $800.

The 2006 Equinox also has a number of reported problems ranging from the key getting stuck in the ignition, to failing speed sensors, and trouble starting the engine. All in all, this car sounds like one worth avoiding.

Would not buy another Equinox again. Ready to drive it through dealership front door. Rip off. Fuel filter in gas tank, now new code reading, another $600.00 plus if taken to dealer. Rip off again. At my age thought this would be car I would drive the rest of my life. Bought it with 23,000 miles on it, good deal right? Not.

whenever we refill the car with gas i have issues starting the vehicle but whenever i hold the gas down while starting it then the car will start. I also have a problem with the check engine light and it was a huge pain when i needed to pass inspection i went to the dealer and they said all it needs is a new gas cap and the sensor to be reset i needed to drive around 1000 mi in order for the sensor to reset. after i pass inspection the light comes on again obviously not the gas cap as it was just replaced.

When my check engine light first came on, the car was still under warranty. The dealership replaced the gas cap. About a year after the warranty expired, the light came on again. I paid for the gas cap to be replaced. The third time, I got a gas cap at Auto Zone and replaced it myself. The car has never liked that gas cap, and the check engine light has remained on. I do routinely have my mechanic hook it up to his computer to make sure that it is still just the gas cap that is causing the light to be on. He has reset the light sensor several times, but it comes back on. I have never had a car that needed the gas cap replaced repeatedly. It is very annoying. I really hate my Chevy Equinox. I have had more issues with it than any other car I have ever owned!

Check engine light and P0445 emissions code. We took it to several mechanics over the past two years and still a problem. We replaced gas cap, gas filler, gas tank sensor, charcoal canister, solenoid sensor, and still same code. Smoke tests were done and mechanic took it to other mechanic.

Check engine light came on june 2013. Took the car to dealership and they did diagnostic test which showed bad gas cap, thermostat and evap leak. I replaced gas cap with the manufacture cap that locks and replaced thermostat. Light went off and was excited because my problem was fixed, or so I thought! Took the car to emissions for second time because it failed test the first time. The car failed the test again! The emissions rep told me to drive the car for a week since I just had service the car needed time to reset? I drove the car for three more days and the light came back on. I was upset because the deadline for my tag was a week away and this car would not pass emissions! I took the car to a mechanic who performed a diagnostic and said the car was not ready that i need to drive a lot more miles. He also reset the check engine light. Went back in a week and told me the car was ready. I drove straight to an emissions place, I had to pay this time because they only offer 1 free test. It passed! Fast forward to the present March 2014 check engine light is back on. Diagnostic test now reads evap leak which can be fixed and now transmissions failure. I'm going for second opinion but am very disgusted. Praying for the best!

PURCHASED THE CHEV EQINOX ON MAY 31.2012 , SHORTLY AFTER I COMPLAINED TO THE SELL MAN WHO SOLD IT TO ME. HE TOLD ME THAT IS NORMAL FOR AN ENGINE LIGHT TO STAY ON, ALL I NEEDED WAS TO HAVE MY CAR IN COMPUTER AN IT WILL REMOVE IT!. ON JAN 12/2012 I STARTED TO COMPLAIN, TO THE TECH'S, ABOUT THE CAR STAYING ON WHEN THE KEYS WERE OFF THE ENGINE, THE DEALER REPLACED AN AFTER MARKET CAR STARTER THAT WAS DAMAGING WIRES. THE CAR WAS GIVEN BACK TO ME A FEW DAYS LATER. I CONTINUE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE CAR TURNING OFF ON ME INTERMITTEN MORE THAN A FEW TIMES, A HARSH NOISE COMMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE CAR , AN THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS SHOWING BACK ON THE DASHBOARD, THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULDT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, AN GAVE THE CAR BACK TO ME, MORE THAN PLENTY OF TIMES. IN LESS THAN 6 MONTH I DROVE MORE OF THEYRE RENTALS THAN MY OWN VEHICLE.UPSET THAT EXACT 6 MONTH AFTER 1/31/2012, THE CAR ENGINE CONTINUE TO COME ON AN I IGNORED DUE THAT THE DEALER CONTINUED TO TEL ME THAT THEY CANT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE!!!!! NOW I AM PISSED. THE NOISE BECOME LOUDER AN I AM GETTING WORRIED, BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER AN I AM TOLD IS THE ENGINE PROBLEM AN NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR NO MORE. SO NOW I AM STUCK WITH A 5YR PAYM WITH A BLOWED CAR IN LESS THAN 6 MOTH OF PURCHASE. I AM TOLD I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT TO GET FIX, BECAUSE IS NOT DRIVABLE. THE ISSUE IS NOT CONCIDER AN OUTGOING PROBLEM DUE THAT THEY AS A DEALER NEVER DUPLICATED THE ISSUE FROM WHEN IT HAD THE WARRANTY AN LESS THAN 3000 MLES. GENGRAS IN EAST HARTFORD CT IS GOING TO GET REPORTED ! I WILL NOT ADVISE ANYONE TO PURCHASE FROM THEM.

My check engine light is constantly on in my car. It was recently in the shop for 6 months for a number of issues, I get it back and within a day the engine light is back on. I believe it is due to a problem my mechanic says he cannot fix because he cannot find it, although he recognizes it being there while driving the car.

This vehicle was purchased in California and I recently moved to Texas. The engine light has been on 6 months now but has gone off only a couple of times. The gas cap has been checked and replaced. The Chevy dealership shows a misfire in the #1 cylinder and a loss of some compression. I took it there for diagnostics only. I had the O2 sensor replaced, no resolution.

Anyway, just today I had the codes cleared and the light went off, then I drove it 85 miles (never shut the engine off) and it came back on. This was recommended by my trustworthy mechanic, not a dealership. I am trying to get it inspected. Does anyone have any other thoughts or solutions? So far this has NOT cost me much, luckily. My next fix will be replacing the fuel injector for that cylinder.

The check engine light would come on and this is the same issue I had shortly after I purchased the vehicle in 2006. Chevy didn't offer a locking gas cap so I went to the auto store and had them to match my vehicle up with one that locks. It wasn't 6 months later I started seeing the check engine light come on and I took it to the dealership (because it was still under warranty). It cost me $75 for the dealership to tell me that fumes were coming out from around the gas cap I had purchased. I had to buy a non-locking cap from the dealership for $30 and the light went away, until that cap recently "went bad" and I started experiencing the same issue again. Bottom line, I had to buy another gas cap and I'm just trying to figure out why are they "going bad" or is it the vehicle?

Engine light would go on and off for about 6 months. Then one day it just came on and would not go off. The car runs fine, gets terrible gas mileage and many parts have been changed out to try to find a solution. No one knows why other than it states some sort of air leak having to do with emissions. I have to have emissions testing done here where i live and have to reset the code and drive for a while and then run it through emissions at the last minute to get it to pass. I own 4 Chevy vehicles and have been real disappointed with this one.

Every 2 to 3 months I have to take my car to have the check engine light cleared out or at least that is what the garage says. They don't know why it happens, says it could be because the gas cap is not on tight, yeah right! Anyway, it is very annoying as they never find anything causing it and it costs me a shop visit every time.
