CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Equinox is plagued by a heating problem, as in the heater only blows cold air.

The reported cause of this problem is a small door, known as the air temperature blend door, which allows air to flow past the heater core. This door has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The problem has a typical repair cost of over $800.

The 2006 Equinox also has a number of reported problems ranging from the key getting stuck in the ignition, to failing speed sensors, and trouble starting the engine. All in all, this car sounds like one worth avoiding.

Guess who. Here we are with my 2006 Equinox with 35000 mile on it. I'm driving along in my truck, the first shift comes about 15-20 mph, but the second shift that's suppose to happen around 35-40 mph, well never happened. So I took my truck to the garage for some kind of estimated repair. When they put my truck on the computer to get a reading, the computer kicked out about 51 different codes. No one really knows what the problem is, but they did find a few other problems. The shifting problem was the original problem that was followed by the other two problems (rear wheel bearings and carrier bearing). I guess I answered my own question, I am driving a red LEMON.

Have noticed for about a week now that the Equinox is having a problem going into gear when accelerating and also a problem coming back down gears when braking.

Yesterday I was at a stop light, with my foot on the brake. I had been there for several seconds, when the Equinox decided it was time to come back down in gears. It felt like the whole vehicle jumped forward.

Also yesterday afternoon, while trying to acceralte on a ramp to get onto a busy interstate, I couldn't get it to go over 15 mph. Had to let off of the gas, wait a second and try again. Good thing I didnt get rear ended.

But after reading so many other complaints on this same issue, who do we need to contact to make this a mandatory recall for GM?? Please someone let me know. I know its going to cost an arm and a leg (probably 2 legs) to get this fixed, and I still owe 12,000 for it.
