CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Equinox is plagued by a heating problem, as in the heater only blows cold air.

The reported cause of this problem is a small door, known as the air temperature blend door, which allows air to flow past the heater core. This door has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The problem has a typical repair cost of over $800.

The 2006 Equinox also has a number of reported problems ranging from the key getting stuck in the ignition, to failing speed sensors, and trouble starting the engine. All in all, this car sounds like one worth avoiding.

The power window control on the driver side no longer works, the power lock on that side quit working as well. Now I hear there is a recall of 2006 GM vehicles with the same issue, but not my car. Is this a coincidence or not enough complaints from Equinox owners" the risk that caused the recall was the potential for a fire. Do I need to worry that my car will catch fire"

My car continues to overheat. I had the radiator flushed and new fluids put in a new thermostat put in but it continued to over heat. When I took it in to have it look at (van dorn auto), I was told that the cooling fans are not working. The mechanical shop (van dorn auto) called the dealer and was told by the Chevy dealer that they were having problems with the fans because of the sizing and that they will have to order a different size to send to van dorn auto to be replaced in my vehicle. When I called for a recall they told me there was no recall. How can that be if the original parts have to be resized to fix the problem. 2nd issue the windows operated like they are off track when it rains. This has been since I purchased the car new in 2006. Every time I go to the dealer, they try to get me to replace the part but they wont offer any discounts. This is a problem with the manufacture and I don't feel I should have to pay for it to be fixed.
