I was driving on highway and my car gave message reduced engine power. I put on my flashers and had to pull over on a exit ramp. I am a female and it was night time, VERY SCARY !! I turned off car and waited about 5 minutes and the car started and still did not seem to have full power of engine. Thank God I made it home. I see many people have this same problem !! I have always been a Chevrolet customer, my Mother retired from GM. Very hard to believe that people have to die before GM has a recall on this problem. If you can recall the Police Chevy impalas, you need to do the same for you customers and possibly save their life !! Word by mouth and internet goes a long way !! I asked someone at work who has the same car and they also have the same problem. I will be buying a different brand if they do not do something about this !! I purchased this car brand new in 2008. Do not want to go to Ford, Chrysler, or Toyota !! Will make a change when buying my next vehicle if they do nothing about this!!

I just bought a 2008 chevy impala two months ago. It has 113,000 miles. Its driven ok for the most part. Then I'm driving down the hwy @ 70 mph and its starts to slow down and the steering locked up. The dash said loss of engine pressure 51% and the engine light came on. I was on my way to a new job interview. Needless to say I didn't get the job. Because I was stranded on the side of the road. I miss my toyota.

Driving down the interstate engine just dies. Radio, light and all still working fine with no interruption. I have narrowed this down to my fuse box. I pop the hood and tap on the fuse box and the car starts right up. I got home left the car running in Park, popped the hood, tapped on the fuse box and it kills the engine.. All the fuses have already been replaced and everything in, on and around it tightened down and it still happens.. Just a matter of time until my engine dies while crossing a intersection and i get T-boned. LOVELY!!

Won't buy one again. When you take it to dealer they say they can't find nothing.

Impala

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,525 miles

As I was merging onto the highway yesterday, with traffic going 70MPH, the "throttle disabled" light came on, and the engine shut down, I lost all power, including steering. I was able to muscle the car over to the shoulder (luckily). I sat on the shoulder for about 30 minutes, intermittently trying to get the car started again. Eventually, the car started again, but the orange engine light stayed on. I drove the car home (about 35-40 miles) on the surface streets, as I was not taking chances with my life again on the highway.

This feels extremely dangerous to me; there was a large tractor-trailer coming up on me as I lost power. This is actually the second time this has happened (once last winter on a surface street).

I AM AT MY WITS END WITH ALL THE ANNOYING ISSUES WITH THIS 2008 IMPALA. IT SEEMS THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUES, BUT TO NO AVAIL WHEN IT COMES TO A RECALL FROM GM. IT'S INSANE THAT ONLY THE POLICE IMPALAS HAVE A RECALL!!!!! AND US CONSUMERS DON'T SEEM TO MATTER TO THIS COMPANY.

I'VE BEEN IN SOME VERY NEAR ACCIDENTS DUE TO THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER AND THE CAR JUST SHUTTING DOWN WHILE DRIVING 65MPH! AFTER TEN OR FIFTEEN MINUTES THE CAR WILL POWER UP AGAIN. NOW THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON!! OIL LEVEL IS FINE. I CHANGE MY OIL EVERY 3,000 MILES AS SUGGESTED. THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHTS NEVER TURN OFF. THE ANNOYING KNOCKING NOISE IN THE DASH DRIVES ME CRAZY. MY CAR IS PARKED NEAR MY BEDROOM WINDOW AND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT THAT DAMN KNOCKING NOISE WAKES ME UP!!!

WHY GM HASN'T RECALLED THESE VEHICLES IS BEYOND ME!!! IS IT GOING TO TAKE SEVERAL TRAGEDIES FOR GM TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT FOR US CONSUMERS??? THEY SURE ARE TAKING CARE OF THE POLICE CARS!!!! MAYBE WE NEED TO POST UP AT OUR LOCAL GM DEALERS TO BE HEARD OR AT LEAST NOTICED. MAYBE THEN SOME POSITIVE ACTION WILL BE TAKEN.

We have 2008 chevy Impala. We were driving and the engine just shut off. It started back, had it checked, said it was throttle changes that did it. We were on highway 70 MPH, shut off, almost was hit in the back end. took it to dealer and spent another 300.00 & still did it again. took it back, said they cleared everything for 100.00. now they say the computer needs change, but can't say if that's what's wrong. do we have to wait until someone is killed to get a recall?
