First, the A/C fan resistor went out so I had that replaced. The mechanic checks the A/C system and replaces the valves. The cost was $400 but then I am told there is a short in the system and its the head controller at $600. After reading it seems I can find the item much cheaper somewhere else

I am really frustrated with one of the many problems I am having with my 2002 Malibu LS. The problem is the A/C does not work, it appears to have a short, which causes the A/C light to constantly flash on/off. Because the light flashes on/off, my car never cools off, when it is 90 degress outside, I am forced to let the windows down and feel the hot air circulate through my vehicle. This is very disturbing because I have a handicap child and it is difficult for me to transport him around, which means he is stuck in the house on very hot days, inorder to ensure he remains cool in the warm weather.

Air conditioning shuts off intermittently while driving. In some cases it remains off regardless to my repeated attempts to re-engage it by pushing the AC button. I notice the on indicator will cycle the green light on and off each time it shuts off and on. My car has an extended warranty and I've taken my car into the dealership but was told the problem could not be duplicated, the A/C did not require re-charging and no leaks were found. I have the air source set to external vice re-cycled from internal yet the problem persist. I've researched this symptom online and found several other reported complaints with the same problem. One owner advised the dealership replaced the air conditioning head to fix the problem. I will take my car back to have the problem re-evaluated as I have several electrical systems working intermittently (cruise control, hazard lights, turn signal, and air conditioning) and perhaps there's a common component/module that's causing a short-out/making poor contact.
