The power steering stopped working all of a sudden. When I got to work I shut the engine off, and when I got off work the power steering was working fine. Since then it has stopped and started working multiple times. It will no longer reset when I shut the engine off, and restart it. We thought it was the eps fuse, but I had it tested and the service tech it was fine.

Having a problem with electric steering that needs to be replaced along with thousands of other GM customers. GM will not fix it and it has been making a noise for 20000 miles now and getting worse. This is bad business.

The power steering will just stop working as you drive. It used to be that turning the car off and restarting it would reboot it, but now it is just not working. The dealer said it is the same unit as the cobalt and there was a recall on that, but that there has been no recall for the Malibu. Apparently there is a problem with these columns. The problem continues.

(Chevrolet Malibu 2007) my power steering intermittently went out and the wheel jerks when your just sitting idle. Now my power steering is completely gone. Many Chevrolet vehicles had this exact issue and were recalled however they did not recall my vehicle. GM dealership performed diagnostic test and informed me I needed to replace steering column which would cost $1000, they would not cover any of it. Im not happy with Chevy and do not plan on purchasing anymore vehicles with them.

Traveling 60 mph on mountain pass and power steering alert came up on my radio screen then I lost power steering causing the vehicle to pull hard to one side. I had absolutely no power steering. I pulled the car over and turned the vehicle off. When I turned the vehicle back on it reset itself and the power steering worked again. It has done this to me several times. I travel across the mountain pass several times a month sometimes on very icy roads. If this were to happen on the icy roads, I run a severe risk of a wreck that could easily cause major injury or death.

When starting the vehicle, I receive the 'power steering' message on the dic (dashboard information center) on the radio display, and there is no power steering on the vehicle. When I turn the car off for about 15 seconds and then restart it, the power steering functionality is restored. This scenario has been intermittent for about a week. Also lost power steering while driving (however all other equipment was fine - electrical, engine running), at about 20 mph with same display on dic. Was able to turn car off for same 15 seconds and restart vehicle and power steering was restored. Seeing multiple similar complaints online for same year vehicle with no recall on this model year.

I was driving on the interstate and my car jerks over and almost hit a 4 wheeler. On my radio it shouted power steering and went out. I have called GMC 3 times total regarding this issue. I just wanted to take it to them to get problem fixed, but they never got back with me. First time it happened the customer service rep was very rude and didn't want to help me. The second time I called the representative stated that she will get the local dealership to call me so we can sell a appointment, never received a call. The third time I chatted online they spouse to contact me and it never happened. I will never buy GMC again. They don't stand behind their product and definitely don't value their customers business. This is dangerous and needs to be addressed.

Power steering notice randomly appeared on my radio. The power steering shut off while driving my car almost causing a crash. I had to turn the car off and start it again in the middle of the road to get it to work. I was told by GM customer service that they do not cover this issue even though many people are experiencing the same problem. This is a dangerous issue that needs to be addressed.

Driving on freeway steering off to access road, when steering wheel started alternating between pulsating and locking up. Managed to gear into side of road.I was scared.checked tires. I did not have a blow out. Called family at the hospital, where my mom was dying, told them I was going back home.drove real slow with emergency lights on.steering wheel would start gyrating at times.thought all it needed was an alignment.got a estimate in access of $700. Another good mechanic stated it did not seem like that was the problem as he checked it well.well I got a big lemon.P.S. after the first incident I parked it for a long time.

The problem started as a clunking noise when I would turn my steering wheel. Power steering would intermittently go out and come back upon restarting car. Now it's almost always gone and if it does work it goes out at any given moment, after dinging to let me know. After having my car looked at I found out the entire steering column needs replaced along with the electronic assist module costing me almost $1400 in repairs for a faulty electronic power steering system. I am legitimately concerned for the safety of all '05, '06, and '07 Malibu drivers. This is so unsafe. I've come close to having an accident 5 times now due to this problem. When I called General Motors the woman said that they changed the power steering on all Malibu's after '07 this tells me they know it's a problem but just don't care. They also offered to help pay for the fix with their 70,000 mile/5 year warranty, but won't recall the parts or vehicle and most fail around or after 100,000 miles. This is unjust and dangerous not only to the drivers of these cars but also to everyone else on the road.

First noticed issue when leaving dentist office and I started car, tried to back out and steering didn't work. I could turn the steering wheel, like having no power steering but worse. So I turned off car and restarted the car and then the power/ electronic steering worked. Then two days later I was driving down hwy 114 going to work early morning, and in the middle of me driving the steering went out again. I have had some old cars where the power steering went out and I had to "muscle" the steering so I did that the remainder of the way to work. Good thing I am physically strong enough to do that or I probably would have been in an accident. Got to work cut car off and started it back and the steering returned. I notice no recalls for the 2007 Malibu and dealership way more than I could afford to fix. Did have another licensed mechanic replace the rack and pinion system and electronic steering and so far so good. However this should not have been my cost for a defective system in the Malibu where a lot of other models got recalls but not the 2007. I feel I should be reimbursed my funds to fix.

I was driving down the highway, I heard a dinging noise. I looked at the audio display and it said power steering. It was nearly impossible to turn. Once I shut it off, it reset and things seemed normal. A week and a half later it did the same thing as I was driving on the highway going about 65 mph. I was able to pull off and turn the car off and reset it once more. It has happened every time I have turned the car on since. I have noticed there have been recalls for same make, model, different year and yet no one seems to care about the safety of the people driving the 2007. The dealership said it could range from $600-$1,200 depending on what the"code"read. I cant afford that amount of money for them not to guarantee a fix. I drive over 40 miles one way to work a day and would like some assurance I can make it there and home safely. Please help!!!!!!!!

The car lost power steering with no prior notice causing the car to be very hard to drive and unsafe. I have researched and there are tons of people experiencing similar problems with their electrict power steering. The 2005, 2006 and 2008 Malibu have had recalls for the same problem but not the 2007??
