The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. While pulling out of the driveway, the steering column seized and an unknown warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The dealer was not called. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that it was not covered by the warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the key failed to release from the ignition. The contact also mentioned that the steering wheel seized intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. The dealer replaced the steering column motor and sensor several times, however, the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 28,000 and the current mileage was 190,000.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact was attempting a turn at 10 mph when the steering wheel became extremely stiff. The contact was able to barely maintain control of the vehicle. The dealer replaced the steering column to correct the failure. The contact was able to locate a recall for the failure (NHTSA campaign id number: 10V073000 - steering: Electric power assist system) and inquired with the manufacturer about a reimbursement. The manufacturer advised that his VIN was not included in the recall and would not provide any further assistance. The failure mileage was 44,000 and the current mileage was 57,000.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. Whenever the contact drove the vehicle at any speed he noticed a clanking sound coming from the center console of the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 50,000. Updated 03/12/10. The consumer stated the power steering failed. Updated 08/26/10
