Like many others, the power steering shuts off randomly and without notice. Highway, city driving etc. I put the car [in neutral and shut off the car and restart and it works. Very dangerous. Does not happen a lot. I have not found any clues to what causes this.

Malibu LT2 2.4L

I was driving the car in snow weather, and I hit the sidewalk by accident the control arm destroyed, inner tie rod as well. I did change the steering and rack pinion myself but guess what, after changing the problem was there (ESC, Power steering off, Traction control off) never buying chevy in my life.

Malibu LTZ 2.4L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 150,000 miles

I had just finished dropping my child off, thank goodness, when I pulled into a busy intersection and power steering decided to go out. No accident! But I stopped all traffic. I thought freezing weather had something to do with it but if so I would not of made it as far as I had before it went out. Cars had to stop so that I could put my car in reverse and turn it off. When the vehicle was turned back on it was fine. Went to the bank and in the drive-thru sitting it flashed "power steering" & "ESC" again so I went ahead and turned the car off.

This car is my DEPENDABLE car. Out of the three vehicles my husband and I have it is the newest with a car payment. We do not have any problems with the minivan or the Subaru. I am so disgusted with Chevrolet right now I cannot stand it. I just called GM to see if a recall has been miraculously placed on this since I have seen many complaints on this site and more, I was told no. She told me that I would HAVE TO take the car to a certified Chevrolet mechanic have it fixed and if they decide it has anything to do with recall # 14772 with 2004-2007 Malibu's then they MIGHT pay me back. I owe one year left on this car and thought that this would be the last of my worries with this vehicle. Now I am going to be lucky to sell it. Sorry for the ramble but I hope someone has a way to resolve this issue without spending the $1000 steering column replacement.
