The service ESC light came on, then the power steering light came on. I was in motion at the time about to make a turn. After a few days of the problem being intermittent, my car wouldn't start at all. I tried to start it and nothing. Replaced battery and a engine power reduced light came on. Car still won't start.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. When making a turn, the steering failed and the electronic stability control indicator illuminated. The contact was able to gain control of the vehicle. My car power steering goes out and comes pack after I turn my car off and on. Sometimes the car won't start and the ABS light and the traction control light is on on the dash and the inside lock and unlock buttons don't work. They will go up and down on their own in the beginning now if I open my door it locks on me. I changed the wheel barring on the front right tire because bell tire said that the sensor was bad and you have to replace the whole thing G. still having issues. I don't feel safe where I work I travel and I don't always work in the best of neighborhoods and I don't want to get my car broken into or robbed. And I surely don't want my power steering to go out again while driving on the high way and me crashing and possibly injuring or killing someone else.
Approximately 2 months ago my daughter was driving her car and steering became incredibly difficult to steer. Fortunately, she managed to make it home. Took to local mechanic and was told power steering was the reason. He told us to take to local Chevy dealership D/T the fact that there was a special warranty/recall on power steering. Took to local Chevy dealership and confirmed was power steering but stated it was a warranty of 10 year or 150,000. Car has current mileage of 133,000. 10 year was said to be up on 12/13/2018 so refused to fix. Did some research and saw an article about recall from vp of GM. Said in article that they are taking responsibility for safety concern and will fix all the cars that have this problem. Spoke with executive car center at GM and refuse to fix vehicle. Sent numerous letters to vp of safety at GM. (xxxx) with no response. Luckily for my daughter she was on local street when power steering went out and not on highway etc. Parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

2009 Chevy Malibu experienced intermittent power steering failures identical to the problem described in the GM #14116B product safety notice (document id 4006770), which affects some 2009 Chevy Malibu. The issue often occurs when the vehicle it just started, then will go away once the car is restarted after it has warmed up. GM says this safety recall in not applicable to our vehicle's VIN. I have no way to independently verify which torque sensor was installed in this vehicle, and wanted to report this issue.
Power steering quits without warning. Randomly.... turn the car off and back on it comes back. Sometimes gotta turn it on and off several times before it works. Then driving down the road outta the blue no power steering. It becomes a real fight to keep the car on the road at that point

Power steering, along with some other electric problems I am having with this car. I have only had the car for 3 years and already the steering wheel locks up frequently while driving my car on the highways, and traveling through the city. Last night the power steering locked as me and my child was driving home. I had to leave the car parked on a side street because the car would not allow me to turn the steering wheel to operate the car properly. At this time I am seeking immediate help with this issue.

Power steering randomly stops work. I was driving down a busy highway and it completely stoped working! I have to stop the car shut it off and back on for the power steering to start working again. Also, when I start the car the wheel starts to shake (when in park) and also shakes going down the highway. Happens at least 3-4 times a week.
Steering wheel randomly loses power and will not move or is very difficult to move. It happens at start up or while in motion. Definitely a safety hazard. The steering wheel also shakes or twitches at slow speeds or at a stop.
