Malibu LT2 4-2.4L-Fi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 95,300 miles

Started in Jan (about 6 weeks ago) - bucking when it shifts in overdrive. Very intermittent at first - then became more regular. The tech that drove it where I get my car serviced said it did it 5-6 times in the test drive. They sent me to a transmission shop. The trans fluid was black like motor oil & had particles in it. Simply changing the fluid would not work! Had to rebuild the trans at 95,000 miles! That is ridiculous.

There is a "tech board" in the trans that also was recommended to replace - bad design I was told. When I first walked into the trans shop they said they do a lot of 2010 Malibu's - very poor design and cheap transmission. Even laughed about how many websites are dedicated to Malibu complaints. I had been very pleased with my Malibu until now. We are a dedicated Chevy family but I don't believe we'll get another Chevy. I'll get an 18 month 18,000 miles warranty on the rebuild - I think I'll look at Subaru... I'm very disappointed with Chevy... Poor warranty and poor design...

Malibu LS 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 29,000 miles

THE 2010 MALIBU WAS MAKING A CRUNCHING SOUND WHEN PUT IT IN REVERSE AND GRABBING WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE FORWARD. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM UNTIL HUSBAND WENT UP AND STARTED TO DRIVE IT. THEY DROPPED THE TRANS PAN AND FOUND LARGE CHUNKS OF METAL. THIS CAR HAD 29,000 MILES ON IT. WANTED A BRAND NEW TRANNY BUT THEY SAID NO AND REBUILT IT. TOOK THREE WEEKS. AT 42,000 MILES IT STARTED BUCKING BAD WHEN DRIVING INTERMITTENTLY. TOOK IT BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS A SOLENOID. TWO WEEKS LATER IT IS STARTING UP AGAIN. I HAVE OWNED GM CARS ALL MY LIFE. DON'T KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT. SO SCARED TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ANYWHERE. DEALERSHIP DID NOT CONSIDER ANYTHING FOR MY TROUBLES. EVEN IN THE WARRANTY INFORMATION FROM GM THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO GET YOU IN AND OUT THE FASTEST AND MOST CONVENIENT WAY POSSIBLE. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WITH ME AND MY CAR IS STILL NOT RIGHT.
