My last 1999 Malibu lasted for 430,000 km. with no engine nor tyranny issue. This one was toast after a fraction of that with the dreaded clutch wave plate failure. Out of pocket big time, won't go back to GM again. I cannot afford their goodwill nor loyalty. Nah nah hey hey good bye !

Malibu LT 2.4L Flex Fuel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 106,000 miles

My daughter was driving about 35MPH when the Check Engine light came on and the transmission stopped working. Luckily, she was able to pull off the road. It could not longer be put in drive or reverse. The manual shift was inoperable as well.

The transmission was completely full of dark black fluid and had to be replaced because most of the internal moving parts were damaged. GM has a pretty good racket where they rebuild transmissions. We had been maintaining maintenance on the car on a regular basis.

Malibu

  • Automatic transmission
  • 82,000 miles

2010 Malibu transmission went out. took it to dealer in December for problem they told me it was fine. Now it's out all the way with 82000 miles and Chevy won't help pay a dime of it. I've had the car for a year and half. Chevy acts like its no big deal it went out so soon

Malibu LT 2.4L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 69,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I had issues with this transmission from day one, they flashed the software, they screwed up my BCM connector on the recall, I had the trans serviced at a trans shop one year ago and no one could find the problem with this trans hard shifts (sporadically) and slipping in high gear. Drive train warranty expired on 06/22/15 and the trans had total failure on 07/03/15 - Chevy will not pick up the whole tab - they use a formula and that formula = $1390.00 out of my pocket. I am a loooooonnnnngggg time Chevy customer between my husband and I our family has owned 23 Chevy's. Guess I will be paying for the repair and then trading it in for a FORD.

Malibu LT

  • Manual transmission
  • 89,000 miles

Got the vehicle at 85k miles. Exactly 6 months after getting the vehicle the transmission went bad. This was covered by myour extended warranty which costs about $5,000 (thank goddess it was covered). I only came out of pocket about $500 as the remaining costs.

Only 6 months after having this transmission replaced it went out again! This time there was no reverse and 1-3 gears. This, unfortunately was no longer covered under warranty. And my extended warranty paid out the max amount so they would not again fix the problem. The dealership est a total of around $8,000 including maintenance. I then took it to a transmission shop and paid $3,300 for them to rebuild my transmission. Which I just had done. Which came with a way better warranty of 3yrs/36k miles.

The first chance I get I will be trading this car in! I wish I would have never purchase done this vehicle! I have put more money into the car than what it's currently worth! (Still awesome on the outside) besides this I've had to replace the steering column $700.. and now I'm having problems with the electrical system. The door chime is unbelievably quite and the drivers speaker goes out every time I put my foot on the acceleration pedal. The I haven't been in an accident and the air bag light stays on for days at a time. I've replaced the tire censor model and it's still unable to read the tire pressure for the L. Rear tire.

This car is beyond a headache! I would not recommend to anyone this or any other Chevy!!

Malibu LT 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 132,033 miles

Transmission no longer goes through the gears, only have 1st and 2nd gear. The transmission will not shift to 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th gear. No REVERSE. Chevrolet diagnosed the problem. The estimate is $4,200 for a new transmission with a 3 year warranty. Or they will rebuild it for $3,800. Two other independent shops gave estimates of $3500-4500 for a replacement or rebuild.

Malibu

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

This car has had many problems. It would cut off with no warning while driving . The Chevy dealer claimed they couldn't find a problem yet it continued to shut down by itself. The transmission went out and was replaced under warranty.
