Silverado 3500 6.0L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 128,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I purchased this vehicle to be used as a work truck and have come to find out that there are apparently several electrical issues involved with this truck. While the engine runs great, I dont have a working speedometer or fuel gauge, the eng. temp. gauge claims to be over heated at all times (even 5am just after turning the engine on) trans. temp. works, oil pressure and tach all working. high beam indicator and cruise control indicator both come on after vehicle has been shut off and key is removed. Truck must be jump started after two days if not started daily. If anyone has any idea please help this is really starting to be a pain in the butt. It sure would be nice to know how much gas I have and how fast I am going.

At one point I did remove the gauge cluster to see if it was possible that something just wasnt plugged in all the way, the only thing that seemed out of place on this was that there was a wire coming off one of the black wires on the connector that was spliced in and ran to a ground screw by the fuse panel just inside the driver side door, assuming that this may have been causing the problem I unhooked this "extra" segment and put everything back together just to find that nothing worked. I took it back apart and decided that having some information was better then none but I am primarily concerened with the speedometer and fuel gauge. I cant afford to take this to the dealership so if anyone has any idea please help. Thank you so much.

Update from Nov 30, 2009: for all others that are having similar problems it has been suggested to me that the ignition switch be replaced and the ground wire that goes from the driver side firewall to rear bottom of motor be checked to ensure tightness. i know my ground wires tight but havent tried the ignition switch just yet. Good luck ya'll and hope we can all fix our rigs

Silverado SL V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 105,100 miles

The speedo and odometer doesn't work all other gauges work fine in my Silverado. We have had several people tells what needs to be replaced, bought new gauges, still doesn't work, bought new computor, speed censor. Everything else works, Lucky that the tach works so I can guess how fast I'm going.
