Very disappointed and frustrated with GM and local dealership. Neither one will stand behind their product. Once i noticed the cracks in the dash, i reseached this problem online. I see that it is not just my vehicle or a one time occurrence, but an obvious defect in the dash on that year vehicle. Knowing this is what is so upsetting about GM and the fact they will not lean assistance in replacing the dash. I did not ask them to foot 100% of the repair only for assistance as the dash is almost 500.00 and the dealership wants 90.00 per hour to replace it.

Silverado LTZ 6.0L V8

In August 2012, I noticed on our ebony dashboard that it's cracked to the left of the passenger side airbag panel. If you were sitting in the passenger seat, it's in the upper left corner, closer to the windshield. There is a diagonal crack from the airbag panel to the edge of the dashboard seam. We always get our vehicles (both GM trucks) serviced at the same dealership (Cadillac dealer), but when I mentioned it to them, they were unaware of the issue. Even so, they agreed to replace it at 50% of the cost (split the cost with me), so it would be about $200, but it turns out, they were looking at the wrong part number. They came back today and said whoa, we can't do it for that. The part itself is well over $600 plus 5 hours of labor to replace it. They have been great up until this point, so the complaint isn't about them, but more so at the lack of willingness of GM's part to fix this issue. They swore up and down they were not familiar with the problem, even though it seems to be very common in 2007+ Avalanches.

As I type this, I'm on hold waiting to speak with an American, English speaking Chevrolet Customer Care rep. (I asked to be transferred to one, after trying to explain my dashboard problem to someone who wasn't quite understanding the situation as I described it.)

I go way back with Chevrolet. My father was a Chevy dealer, and we are a diehard GM family. GM has always stood behind its products (tinking aluminum driveshaft in my 2000 Camaro, warped rotors, slow window motors, blown speakers, etc all replaced by Chevrolet, although some took some extra phone calls.) So I expect the same to be done with my Silverado as well. It's just frustrating to have spent $40k+ on a brand new truck, only to have to go this far to deal with this issue, instead of having a dealer address and fix it right away.

cracks on dashboard

GM said they would cover half the cost (parts), if I covered labor. Thats bull. My half would be 377 dollars. I can buy the dash for 230 bucks from GMpartsdirect. I told them to shove it and I'll join the class action lawsuit againt them. Anyone know of a lawsuit started? I'm gonna start a facebook group and try and link everyone in on it. Then maybe they can see the gravity of their error.

I'm really teed off no doubt. I bought this truck when the new style trucks came out. May 2007. I did notice a two little cracks a few years ago, but I see another crack today while cleaning my truck. I go to the web and googled:dash board on 2007 Chevrolet Silverado New Style and I found this web site. Man, my problem is exactly like the one noted on the video I sent. This vehicle was the Consumer Reports top truck of the year. This is the most suckative situation I've had in a long long time.
