CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is fairly new & is already showing an early trend of transmission problems.

Owners report hesitation when shifting & grinding/hard shifting into gears. Some dealers are calling the condition "normal". Another owner reported his dealership replaced the transmission under warranty, but the new transmission had the same exact grinding problem. Design defect?

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON SO I TAKE IT TO SEVERAL PLACES INCLUDING DEALER TO SEE WHAT'S UP. THEY ALL TELL ME IT'S MY GAS CAP SO I BUY A NEW GAS CAP FROM A DEALER OVER $20 AND THE PROBLEM DIDN'T GO AWAY. I TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY TELL ME IT'S THE FUEL TANK VENT VALVE THAT IS FOR EMISSIONS AND IT'S NOT GOING TO HURT MY CAR ONLY AFTER THEY TAKE THE FUEL TANK OUT AND TRY TO CHARGE ME OVER $350 FOR THE REPAIR.

I SAID NO THANKS, IF IT'S NOT GOING TO AFFECT MY ENGINE OR CAUSE ANY OTHER ISSUES I DON'T WANT TO FIX IT RIGHT NOW. WHO HAS THAT KIND OF MONEY TO FIX SOMETHING THAT ISN'T SERIOUS... SO THEN THEY CHARGE ME $109 TO LOOK AT IT AND TAKE OUT MY GAS TANK WHEN I TOLD THEM NOT TO DO ANYTHING UNTIL THEY TELL ME FIRST. WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER AT TOM GILL CHEVROLET IN FLORENCE! NEVER GO THERE!
