The emergency brake/parking was replaced the first time on 10-30-2002. The consumer took the vehicle in for inspection and was told the emergency brake had failed again.

Took vehicle for yearly inspection, and the emergency parking brake failed. This is the second time in two years that this has occurred leading to expensive reapir work. We never even use the parking brake!

My rear windshield collapsed into pieces when I opened the cargo door. The shattered glass flew everywhere and resulted in minor cuts scrapes, and not to mention incontrollable tears on my 6-yr old daughter and myself. The service dept. Employee stated several vehicles have gone for the same reason. My parking brake is inoperable and caused my vehicle not to pass inspection. My co-worker had the same problem just yesterday and it needed all of the cabling replaced. When my vehicle was still under extended warranty we lost 3 tires and the men at the tire shop told us that our truck was missing the pinions on all four wheels and the dangers it caused. I had them added to my truck and haven't had a tire bust since. Never got compensation. I think this is something I should be compensated for. Its ridiculous how these new vehicles are falling apart and no one is on our side.

The parking brake on the 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe failed inspection because the emergency brake failed to stop the vehicle. The problem was diagnosed by three separate mechanics all of whom notified me that this is a common problem among 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, & trucks. I have rarely used my emergency brake. This problem ruined my brake drums and cost me nearly $1000.

My sunroof leaks, my brakes do not work well, my rear windshield wiper went crazy, wouldn't stop, now is broken; my two back power window motors have stopped. I cannot roll one down, the other one was replaced while under warranty. My parking brake does not work. My 2000 Tahoe also leaks underneath the steering column somehow causing my driver's side floorboard to get soaked and there are pieces rusting underneath due to this. My car smells of mildew because of these leaks, my leather seats are ruined and the floor boards are ruined.

The parking brake on the 2000 or newer Chevrolet Tahoe fails over time even if the brake is not used. My parking brake has been used three time in three years. Each time was during the vechile inspection only. This third year the brake failed to stop the vehicle. The inspection agent says that all 2000 or newer Chevrolet Tahoe have this issue. GM has not provided a recall. In (flat) Texas this is not a problem but it would be a problem in a more hilly geography.

The parking brake is a mechanically operated drum and shoe brake independent of the hydraulic caliper. The design is defective in that the shoe assembly is held in place only by friction of the actuator surface and a clip. Under vibration, the shoe falls and rides on the drum wearing in to the drum. On my vehicle, the top of the shoe brake surface was not worn but the bottom was down to the metal and the drum had worn 0.100 into the radius. As a result, there was no parking brake. The local Chevrolet dealer service manager told me that GM was working for a fix in the 2003 models and that they replaced many drums and shoe assemblies at an estimated cost to the owner (or new vehicle warranty) of $1000. Discussion with a local tx stated inspection station indicated that they reject many 2000 and newer GM vehicles due to parking brake failures. ***dimsii IVOQ entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****762856

Living in the city limits of memphis, tn a resident is required to pass vehicle inspection before renewing vehicle tags. My 2000 Tahoe Chevrolet failed inspection for the emergency break did not work. After having fixed and return to re-inspect my vehicle the first thing out of the ladies mouth when I pulled in was let me guess you failed B/C of your emergency brake I said yes, how did you know. She proceeded to tell me that several Tahoe/Yukon including 2003 have failed this year. Wanted to make you aware of this issue so further investigation can be done. Thanks.
