- the contact owns a 2003 Tahoe that the passenger 's side airbag deployed unexpectedly on 1/27/07, a warning light turned on at that time. The contact has not taken the vehicle to the dealer because of a warranty issue. The contact complained since this was a 3 year old vehicle and has been in no accidents. The contact stated that six months after purchasing the vehicle the steering shaft vibrated when making a left or a right turn, the dealer replaced it at no charge. This resolved the issue. However, 7 months later the vibration restarted. The dealer lubricated the parts and it worked again. The contact wanted to file a complaint since this problem was still unresolved. However, the vehiclewas now out of warranty. The current mileage was 44,796 and the failure mileage was 10,000.

Intermediate steering shaft, very noisy, could not get part due to back order. So they packed it, part finally came in, and it was replaced under warranty in January 2005. Same problem is occurring now, dealership technician said he could not hear it, or see it, I do not believe they had my car in the back long enough to really look, I drove with it for weeks, I know it is the same problem, and I know the parts are hard to get, why isn't this a recall. Is it safe to drive.

The vehicle is a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 four-wheel drive. The intermediate shaft shakes and rattles to the point of having slack in it. He took vehicle to the dealer and they greased it. The second time they greased it again. The third time the dealership replaced the intermediate shaft because it was on a recall. Consumer had to wait a year before they could get the replacement part. The problem has returned even after the part was replaced. The problem was in the same area but, the noise was a little different and it was making a knocking sound. Consumer believed that it may be in the front end differential. Consumer has not contacted the dealership. Also, fuel pump failed. Dealership replaced the fuel pump. There were other problems, but consumer felt they were minor.

Intermediate steering shaft. When driving down the road the steering wheel has play in it and when going over bumps the wheels clunk. I took my Tahoe in to have it looked at in Sept. The intermediate shaft was ordered then. I still do not have it fixed. They are on back order. With 178,00 needed in the us. I have taken the Tahoe back in to have it greased to make it stop clunking again. It works but only for a short time. I am a mother of one and have another on the way. This is my only mode of transporation and I am not comfortable with it.

The steering wheel shakes and feels like it going to separate from the column and fall off. This is due to a design flaw in the immediate steering shaft that the manufacturer is aware off. The manufacturer's remedy for the problem is to lubricate and tighten the steering. This fixes only last 5000 miles. The immediate shaft was replaced, but the problem recurred.
