So my power steering pump had a leak so I got a new pump and now the leak is fixed well now my truck is making a loud squealing noise and it's hard to turn and if i turn to hard it makes a loud noise. I just spend 3000 on other problems working the last 2 months and now here I am again wondering how I'm gonna afford this problem its just one after another I can hardly take anymore stress from this traverse. So anyways I have taken it to a few diff shops and it's still not fixed. Every time I get my truck back no-one can ever figure out what's wrong. I'm so tired of the p.o.s that cost me so much money that I don't have. Being a single mom does not help at all. Chevy needs to do something about these Traverse vehicles that are not fixable. They should not be able to get away with selling cars that are lemons.

2010 Traverse has horrible power steering. It's not smooth and it whines when you turn it. In the old days, I would have just figured it need power steering fluid. But no, something is definitely wrong. This is a horrible SUV and has numerous serious problem, and I am highly disappointed in Chevy.

I BOUGHT MY CAR IN 2011 AND I LOVE IT, BUT LATELY I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING SOME ANNOYING NOISES COMING FROM MY CAR WHEN I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. IT WHINES AND IS VERY LOUD. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I'M HAVING THIS PROBLEM SINCE THE CAR STILL LOOKS GOOD. BUT WHY THE STEERING IS SOUNDING LIKE THIS? I DON'T UNDERSTAND, ESPECIALLY AS MUCH AS THIS VEHICLE COST. I'M SORRY THAT THERE'S NOT A RECALL ON THIS ITEM AS THIS COULD POSSIBLY LEAD TO MAJOR REPAIRS FOR ME OR OTHER CONSUMERS.

I brought the truck to a Chevy dealer that had a handle full of issues they found. Took it back to the place I purchased the truck from and they did not agree with the first dealer diagnosis. They found nothing. Took the truck home to have to bring it back within a couple weeks because the steering was getting worse. Finally they figured it out and gave me a 2015 rental Traverse to drive for over a week as they fixed it. I was not charged for the services however it was an inconvenience to drive back and forth

I have a 2010 Chevy Traverse with steering problems; however, Burlington Chevrolet stated it wasn't the power steering pump. They said it was the steering gear rack which will cost me about $1,600 plus tax (also includes flushing the line and wheel alignment).

This is ridiculous. I've read similar common problems. This has to be related to the recent power steering pump issue letter that GM recently mailed. I'm frustrated!

Update from Jan 22, 2015: Chevy dealer replaced steering gear rack on 01/22/2015 as the bushings were shot (worn out). Service included: power steering flush, 4-wheel alignment, and replace power steering pump. Total cost with sales tax was $1,665.06. There was no charge to replace power steering pump (warranty/recall).

Traverse LT V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 48,000 miles

Began to hear a whining noise and thumping sound when turning. Researched and found many blogs & sites about the possibility of steering issues and locking up. Received TSB 14329 about steering issue from Chevrolet and took it to local Chevrolet dealer.

At first we were told it was the steering pump and that it was leaking fluid (which would covered). Now we are told that it's the rack too and that is NOT covered, which we have seen in other posts as well. This ALL needs to be recalled and others notified! My teenage daughter was driving this car and to think of the danger we put her in is just mind blowing!!!

Turned out to be worn out rack and pinion

Replace Rack and pinion.

Out of pocket $100 ; beats the $1000 repair bill

Traverse LS V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 66,500 miles

I paid way to much for this vehicle to have to replace the steering at 66,500 miles! Too many other owners having the same issue. This should be a recall. SHAME ON Chevrolet for not honoring their mistake in the Traverse Model. I love my Traverse however I will think twice about buying another Chevy if this is recalled.
