CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Chrysler 200 carries the torch of "never buy the 1st year of a new vehicle generation" with pride.
The 2015 model year is the first year of the Chrysler 200's 2nd generation. It has been plagued by problems from the start. Transmission failure at extremely low mileage, many recalls, problems stalling while driving... the list goes on. Maybe Chrysler should have stuck with the 1st generation.

Car stalling out while driving. Stalled 4 times 12/10/17 then was driving rough, as I was going down the street the red lighting bolt came on along with the check engine light, parking light, traction control light. Went to the gas station to put gas in, started car and the car would not go into drive. It took around 8-10 minutes to get the car to go into drive. There was all kinds of warnings going across the screen saying electrical malfunction service immediately and transmission malfunction service immediately. So I take the car in and the tcm is needing replaced and the engine may need replaced. This is not ok for a 2015 car to have this many problems.
In late August 2017 I purchased this vehicle, within 60 days an alarm light came on and sounded off. I took the car into the service dept, and was told an adjustment was made and the car would be fine. A few days later the same thing happened, this time I was told the car needed a transmission; a 4 was put in the car instead of a 2 and it would be 6 months to a year before the part would be available, because there was a back order on this particular item. Due to manufacturing, this is a wide spread issue and there is no recall, the cars are being repaired as they are brought in. I was also told to continue driving the car I should not have any other problems other than the car may stall. Well, the gears are starting to slip and it takes a couple seconds to get in gear when pulling off from an idle position, along with that the alarms are still going off. The issue that the car could just cut off in the middle of driving is unnerving by itself. I no longer feel like I have a safe vehicle to drive. I can't continue putting myself at risk. The car is still under the full warranty.
The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. While driving 45 mph, the service transmission warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to garden city Jeep Chrysler Dodge Ram (283 N franklin St, hempstead, NY 11550, (516) 336-4712) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code or duplicate the failure. Additionally, on several occasions while attempting to make a 3-point turn, the vehicle was shifted into reverse but failed to respond. The contact turned the vehicle off and back on, and the vehicle operated as intended. The contact stated that the failure recurred five to six times. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 8,000.
The car wouldn't start and then it disabled itself. Finally able to get it started, it's started flashing through out the dash about the key-fob, replaced the batteries, that didn't fix it. Then it started appearing to be neutral while driving, the engine malfunction light came on, but there was no code. Restarted the car, mil off. Didn't drive for several days, had a difficult time trying to start the car, the car didn't want to reverse. Wouldn't go over 32 mph. Turned off restarted was able to go 50 mph. The mil was on, was able to a diagnostic reading - see attached. My dash is lite up like christmas. It is flashing transmission errors and parking brake errors. Why wasn't I notified the recall for this vehicle? I took car to the dealership the week of thanksgiving as this first stated 11/24/2017
On November 29, 2017 at approximately 5:15 pm, was driving approximately 25mph in traffic on a two lane. I hit the brake to stop, no brakes, and I hit the person in front of me. After hitting them, I bounced off and continued to move with no brakes. My airbags did not deploy and I sustained injuries to me chest, neck, head and back. I was able to steer the car in the right side lane and eventually was able to steer into a parking lot; still with no brakes. I looked down to pull up the emergency brake and saw the shifter in neutral. I then put the shifter in park and the car finally stopped. I do not yet have the police report. I did not receive a ticket, but was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
9-speed automatic transmission shifts extremely hard in gears 1-5. also lunges on downshifts. Software updates and new valve body have not fixed the problem. Dealer now states nothing else can be done since no check engine data can be found.
The transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral. The car is shaking right after I refilled the gas to full. I have been to the dealer to have the same problem fixed over 5 times. However, the same problem occured the next day after I was told the problem was fixed. I was driving the vehicle on the high way. All of a sudden, the transmission broke down and the car lost its power.
Takata recall. My car sometimes has a hard time changing gears, it's almost like it gets stuck in neutral sometimes and wont properly accelerate. I was not in city limits it happens constantly when I first start to drive my vehicle (mostly when I'm within my own personal driveway) and I have not been in any fatal accidents nor have I been in a near accident. The only reason I am reporting this issue is because I have seen this occuring issue with other cars the same as mine model/year wise and was wondering if my specific vehicle had been looked at for these potential recalls.
First, there is the HVAC/windshield defrost. My concern with that condition is that my vehicle is my main source of travel and to have the HVAC to work properly in the summer is vital as well, as having a clear windshield. A breakdown at night, an accident, hitting a pole hole, something or someone would be far worse than a mere inconvenience. Incidentally, my intended use of the vehicle was made quite clear to the sales staff when I bought it. Second, and the matter of far greater concern to me is the transmission. Car making clucking noise, vibrating, jerking while shifting gears and launching while driving as if someone hit me from the back. Third, vehicle is only 2 years old and has had to have the drive shaft replaced. Which in return I've been without vehicle for more then 14 days and occur extra expenses of car rentals, tires and wheel alignment due to irregular wear. Fourth, hesitation on attempt to accelerate. I was informed that issue would be resolved with replacement of drive shaft. Defective drive shaft was the reason for delay and jerking. Fifth, excessive gas burning. I was informed that exist because of drive shaft. Once drive shaft was replaced it didn't resolve issue. I was giving a formula to calculate gas mileage, which was given to dealer. Car averaging 16mpg. Per car sticker fuel economy: Highway 29/ city 18. Car is driven mostly on highway without a lot of stop and go traffic.
Stalls shifts, shifts hard won't go to park stays in neutral. Went for recall dealer said I just need the update. Car is still acting the same after recall. Feel very unsafe when car stalls on highway and busy streets.
Transmission may shift unexpectedly to neutral causing a loss of motive power. The loss of motive power could cause a crash without warning. The incidents always involve shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. All 6 or 7 incidents that happened from January to October occurred on city streets.
Everything that is wrong with my car is currently under what has been recalled however my VIN [xxx] does not state there is a recall. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
As I was on my way to work at 5:30 am this car stalled and told me to pull over, turn off engine and place in park. I live in country so there was nothing but a back country road. The car would not start at all would not shift into park, I called my husband to come help me. He had to pull both battery terminals off and reconnect them. After I was 2 hours late to work the car finally started again. Since this incident this has happened 3 more times at different times of day.

The failure mileage was 41,000.
Takata recall! my Chrysler has been shutting off and losing power. It is hard to restart it and it says put it park. No warning lights and it beeps when I turn.
Transmission shifts hard lurches forward when trying to stop doesn't respond at acceleration loses power when trying to pull out in traffic Chrysler says I need to put new tires on the car to correct the transmission
The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. While the vehicle was parked, another vehicle crashed into the rear of the contact's vehicle. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The gear shifted from park to neutral independently. The vehicle rolled away, but was able to be stopped. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (security Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, 345 merrick road, amityville, NY 11701) where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. On a separate occasion, while driving various speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate while the accelerator pedal was being depressed. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, but the failure could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 17,700.
