CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Chrysler 200 carries the torch of "never buy the 1st year of a new vehicle generation" with pride.

The 2015 model year is the first year of the Chrysler 200's 2nd generation. It has been plagued by problems from the start. Transmission failure at extremely low mileage, many recalls, problems stalling while driving... the list goes on. Maybe Chrysler should have stuck with the 1st generation.

Haven't drove my car in 8 months - the car got parked to fix a pulley wheel in. Ever since that, it have the check engine light on and I pay every month. Why does this happen when I park the car? I'm not sure what it is when I try to change the gear - it was stuck.

not shifting properly not shifting properly

I've had SOO many issues with this stupid car. I bought it new March 21,2015. In November 2017. I got in my car started everything normally, ALL of the electrical things in the car came on MINUS the radio, zero sound. the engine did not come on.. turned the car off and on again.. same thing happened. Tried a 3rd time the engine came on so I revved it and it wouldn't make a sound, but I was able to drive it. Its hesitated to started since then. The automatic start will fail to start after beeping twice to show you its supposed to start.. I've been backing out of my driveway and when stopping and putting the nob from REVERSE to DRIVE. The back end sinks down like it would if the emergency brake were on. I've noticed its shifted hard a year after purchasing it. I have had both recalls taken care of.. but it seems the last recall for the Transaxle Wire Harness hasn't been fixing the problem..

I have an appointment Friday morning to drop it off. at Darcars where I purchased it.. cant wait to hear " they don't know what the problem is" like the rest of the complaints I've been reading. I'd LOVE to trade it in.. but since Chrysler doesn't hold their value, I doubt ill get the $10k that I owe on it. Damn you Chrysler.

Vehicle will shift through all 9 gears within 100 feet while driving on driveway and when I stop at mouth of drive before pulling onto road it does not down shift to first and will barely pull itself and then it will slam into first gear causing a lurch into road while spinning tires. This has also happened when I stop at stop signs and lights. I took to the local dealer and was told that there is nothing that can be done for this problem that the transmission was going stupid and I will just have to put up with the poor shifting. Service manager said as there were no warning lights that there can not be a problem.

This vehicle is a terrible vehicle. I purchased it 7 months ago and it's been in the shop 10 weeks. Now Chrysler don't want to replace the transmission and said this car has cost them too much money. Not my problem, don't make a faulty car and you wouldn't have to worry!!!!! The vehicle would start driving and it's like it would brake when you change gears. It even stalled as I pulled into traffic. Someone is going to be killed!!!!

Transmission has been rebuilt and rebuilt- with nor resolution. Dealer in Hollywood and other dealers nearby do not even have technicians that can work on the problem. How pathetic -problem has been dealt with since 8000 miles on a knee jerk approach. Still a problem. May be Chrysler can send some one from Detroit to help work on and replace the whole transmission .

This has been an ongoing issue with my Chrysler 200. I have the 9-speed auto transmission and the 2.4l engine (so no paddle shifting). Problems started soon after purchase and have continued for over a year. Rough shifting, poor shift patterns, very bad "lurch" when stopping etc.

Over the last 14 months I have had six software updates all of which have solved some problems, left others and introduced more. The final issue is that the vehicle refuses to select 2nd gear when decelerating. It bypasses 2nd and goes straight from 3rd to 1st. Worse still this causes a huge problem if you don't actually stop (like turning left from a road) as the vehicle will not downshift easily and is unpredictable.

Chrysler have agreed to replace the Transmission under warranty. If this fixes the problem, I will update this complaint. If it does not then I will open a new complaint. All in all I am very disappointed in the transmission in the vehicle. That being said, Chrysler themselves have been easy to work with.

Update from May 24, 2016: Just got the car back from the dealership. Brand new 948TE Transmission, TCM and PCM. Interestingly the TCM and PCM are different part numbers from the original fitted to my vehicle (noted on the service docket). Also everything flashed with the latest software. Given the fact that the system will now have "learn" how I drive (good luck with that) it will take time before I know if things are better. Immediately, however, I can tell that the vehicle still refuses to select 2nd gear when decelerating. I am not hopeful.

200 S 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,217 miles

Bought the car in January of 2015. It had 2,200 miles on it when we bought it. From the beginning when you would put your foot on the brake the car would accelerate. Also you could be going along at 65mph and the car would lose all power and the Rams would go down to 0. Scary at times when you are on a hill. Anyways the car was taken in July 23 and they deemed it unsafe to drive and we were given a rental until they could figure out what was wrong. The car had 12,000 miles on it and we were told the car needed a new transmission. They replaced it and we got the car back on August 7. Within a week the car was back to its old tricks again. However this time we noticed the car would slam into 1st gear and totally miss 2nd gear on the down shift. We took it back to our dealer and they said it was perfectly normal. We were unhappy with their answer so we called Chrysler and they said to seek a 2nd opinion. We called another dealer and they took it in and put it on the code machine and it brought up 4 codes. We were then told that we needed a 2nd transmission replaced on the car. Really? It now has 20,000 miles on it and is in the shop getting the 2nd transmission in it. We are totally disgusted with the car and the service we have recieved. It has been nothing but a headache. Also we called the Chrysler company and have been promised to be called back only to not hear from them several times. We bought a new car so we wouldn't have problems like this. We would never recommend this car to anyone not even an enemy.
