CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar” warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

This is the brake booster Ford is supposed to cover under their extended warranty, but Nevis of the pandemic I did not report the issue to Ford because the vehicle was not being used. When I did try to get the car in to repair by a dealer, two different dealers service departments did not return phone calls to get an appointment to bring the car in. After repeated attempts, I had the car towed to my local mechanic.

They replaced the booster and also reported that the master cylinder needed replacement and a full brake flush should be done. Then they called back and said the brakes are still failing with a fading pedal and it was the ABS/HCU that is bad. Car is still not repaired due to parts not available. 6 months now.

Est is up to 4500.

I will open a separate complaint for the HCU.

This problem is dangerous. I have had Toyotas, Hondas, BMWs, Infinitis, and 1970 Fords. Never have I had so many recalls where my problems start after the recall expires! This car has had an orange screwdriver in dash which was also a safety issue. I came up to stoplight and car died. $400 later Ford fixed it but the recall had expired so I paid for it! Received a letter from Ford showing DOOR AJAR and recall ended in 2021. My DOOR AJAR just started showing up 3 months ago, and now in 2022.

I know Ford's script, “sorry, recall has expired”. Now I have this brake booster issue and recall is 150,000 miles or 10 years (my Ford Edge is 2011, 90,700 miles), so guess what - the recall expired! Ford will not pay for it. I just took it to Burnette Automotive and had them fix it. I don’t understand how Ford cannot be held accountable for this dangerous part that was installed in the factory on 2011 thru 2015’s. I’ve even read people with 2018 & 2019s having the problem.

Get it replaced by ford for free before 150,000 miles

It is a defective part from the factory.

It may still work for 6 months before it fails completely but do not wait.

Free Power Booster.

My 2011 Ford Edge SEL's brakes started becoming harder to stop until you have to press all the way down to stop. I thought the pads were gone, so I took it in for new brake pads. After pads changed, there was no difference in the brakes. The mechanic said the problem wasn't the pads but a pressure plate or something like that.

Went online to see if there were any reported problems and found many complaints with the same problem. The car will stop, but only after pressing hard and then you get a very rough stop.

I am having the same exact problem where I have to push the brake pedal to the ground in order for it to engage. Or should I say "hopefully" engage. I am able to adjust to it but my wife took the SUV the other day and it was slick out, she almost smashed it. The brake booster was replaced about a year ago.

I think I have narrowed it down to this happening right after my ABS engages. Once it is engaged, the brakes are then VERY dangerous until the pedal decides to gain its stiffness.

I started hearing like air every time I try to brake. I'm assuming this is what everyone is saying the hissing noise is. Within two weeks my pedal got firm and didn't act like it wants to push. Now when it's all the way to the floor it's almost like I don't have any brakes at all. It still wants to roll. I did some research and apparently it's a common issue. Andre was a customer satisfaction program put in place and going to call the dealer tomorrow. It should be able to be fixed at no cost to me before I get in a wreck.

Very scary while driving and suddenly you hear a hissing noise coming from the brake pedal along with difficulty pushing the pedal.

Bought the car used from Carmax, thank God I bought a warranty. Still only 53,000 miles and have had a Ford E-250 Van for 16 years and never had that problem or with any of the other cars I've owned. I baby my cars and do not put very many miles on them. Obviously this is a problem with the 2011 Ford Edges.

Update from May 31, 2016: Took the car to the dealer, they replaced it for free, said it was under the Ford warranty.

Car needed major repair after only having it for 2 years (purchased in August 2013 as a certified pre-owned vehicle from a Ford dealership.) If it wasn't for the car being repaired by family, we were told it would cost us over $1,000 to repair. At the time, could not find any information on a recall for the brake booster, so we had to pay out of pocket.

FYI: in the 25 years our mechanic has been working on cars, this was his 4th brake booster replacement, so that goes to show how infrequent this issue can be and it happens on a young car.

I am the original owner and even though my mileage is high, it's all highway driving. I was on a local street and I almost had an accident because the brakes just failed. I found it odd to have the brake booster fail on a car that is only 4 years old. I reached out to Ford and they didn't want to have anything to do with me because the car was over the warranty mileage. This is one of many problems I've had and I will not invest in Ford every again.

Edge Limited 3.8L V6

Bought this car as a certified pre-owned automobile off a 2 year lease. Was great for about the 1st year of usage and then both left and right front tie-rods needed replacing, full front brake job, squealing coming from the brakes only to discover the faulty brake booster had failed! I researched and spoke to people who already owned a Ford Edge before I purchased this one and they all had good things to say - so I took the plunge.

Ford - never again! Not to mention the ECM recall I had to have done and when they returned the car suddenly the compass is no longer accurate and I still get a kick in the ass feeling sometimes when I am stopped at a red light. What kind of cars is Ford manufacturing - garbage compared to imports I guess. Never again. I only fear what is next with this 4 year old car with just 55000 km in mileage, that's about 34,400 miles. Disgraceful!
