CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar” warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

I bought this car 2015 in the late winter. From the time I bought it the drivers door sensor would say its ajar. According to the dealer it would be about $1000 to fix. Tonight my auto door unlock doesn't work and neither does the key unlock the door. I'm stranded 30 miles from home. This is totally unacceptable. I will be letting anyone who asks to be extremely cautious about any Ford products.

Left rear door ajar light stays on. This results in the dome light staying illuminated. When parked this drains your battery and can leave you stranded. When driving at night the dome light greatly hinders your vision. I cannot verify if the door is fully latching when this happens. This is a safety concern and needs to be a recall!

The dome lights stay on while driving. I had to replace my battery and now I am afraid my new battery will run down and leave me stranded away from home.

The 2 front door switches work sometimes. When parked the car thinks the doors are open and keeps the lights on. Sometimes for no reason the interior lights turn on and it drains the battery. Plus when the switches are not working the car does not think that it is locked and will beep twice when locking the car. When the switches have failed the doors will not lock when driving. I have been stranded because the lights will just come on when in a store and the battery will drain down to where the car will not start.

Passenger door ajar warning began to come on in October 2015, even when the passenger door was shut. This has resulted in the dome lights staying on when I begin to drive the car. This creates a safety issue at night, as it has a very negative impact on my vision until the dome lights go off. When I park the car, shut it off, and close all doors, the interior lights stay on because of this problem. This has resulted in a draining of my battery. I have had to charge the battery on many occasions (6 times in the past week). This issue is fully responsible for me having to purchase a new battery yesterday, which cost nearly $200 installed. The battery draining because of this matter could be a serious safety issue depending on where I was and who was around when I needed a jump. Finally, the passenger door ajar indicator malfunction prohibits me from locking my doors when I am driving. This is a significant safety issue. I have to travel three times a week into a city with high crime and I cannot lock my doors!! I have this same problem with the rear left door ajar indicator, although to a lesser extent. Ford is aware that there is a big problem here and I feel they should be forced to recall these vehicles in the interest of the safety of the owners. It seems to be they could be liable in the event of an accident due to dome lights blinding a driver at night or if there was theft or injury resulting from doors not being able to be locked when driving. The repair is quite expensive and vehicle owners should not have to pay for this. This issue has made me dislike driving and owning this vehicle for the past year. Please force Ford to do the right thing and make them recall these vehicles. Thank you in advance for your time and attention to this matter.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. While driving various speeds, the door ajar warning indicator illuminated with the door closed. In addition, after the vehicle was parked, the interior lighting failed to shut off and caused the battery to become inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the door sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.

The sensor in my driver side door warns me that my door is "ajar" when all doors are shut. When this warning is on, I am not able to lock any doors in my vehicle (neither in motion nor parked) and I often travel with toddlers. The dome lights are also illuminated so it is almost impossible to see on the road at night.

My driver side door indicator came on and at first it would take me a few times shutting the door for it come off. Now its to the point where it does not turn off and keeps the interior lights on until I drive forward a bit, then turn off. That's not good at night for sure. Now when my car is locked the panic alarm goes off all times of the day and night. I was driving down my driveway (thank goodness) one night and the lights turned on and the car started dinging for the door. Why is this something that is not recalled"?" it is dangerous for the light to stay on at night and especially if my door really isn't latched. I don't see why I should have to pay something out of pocket that I didn't break or have control over breaking. Please help fix this........

The driver side front door sensor is bad, which keeps the door ajar light on at all times, and keeps the overhead lights on for an extended period of time, which drains the battery and is also dangerous when driving at night. Had the dealer "fix" the issue by doing a cleaning/cycling on the electrical part of the latch, but it only lasted a few months and now the problem is back. Ford does not seem willing to address the issue as a safety concern - unsafe to drive with overhead lights on, and it drains the battery, which has caused other issues for me, including having to replace the battery well ahead of its intended useful life.
