I left my house in the morning on 11/6 and after a short drive the "AWD off" and a "little wrench" light came on and the car lost power and just stopped in the middle of the street since I was trying to go up a hill. Thankfully no one was behind me!! it started to run very rough so I turned it off quickly, waited a few seconds and restarted it. The car then ran ok and got me to work and home again but when my husband took it to run an errand that night, same thing happened to him and then again this morning when I was bringing the car down for service. This was three times in one day! with no warning the car just loses power and stops. Very dangerous!! I'm afraid to drive my car now and I don't want to be on the highway and have this happen - someone is going to get hurt. The dealer cannot duplicate the problem or find a code coming up to reveal the issue.

  • 40,000 miles
The door ajar warning light illuminated although the doors were shut close. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the door latch mechanism was defective and needed to be replaced. Issue lead to drained battery - car appears not to have a battery safety for door ajar. Lead to unsafe condition not being able to use when needed. Could be dangerous if car would have been remote or in unsafe area. Repaired for over $400.

Driver door ajar light warning remains on after door is closed. Dome lights remain on for 5 minutes or longer and creates a visibility issue when driving at night. Drivers door ajar alarm is active even though the door is closed, this will not allow the doors to be locked while the car is I motion. This is the second time this problem has occurred within the last 2 years. The repair requires that the door lock mechanism be replaced...Ford needs to determine why this lock unit keeps failing!

problem #304

Aug 022015

  • 105,000 miles
The driver side door ajar will not go away. The sensor seems to be broken for this and through my research is a very common problem. This cause the dome lights to stay on, hindering visibility while driving at night. Further, the lights both inside/outside as well as the console stay on for 10 minutes if door is closed and locked. This in turn drains the battery sometimes requiring a boost.

problem #303

Sep 202015

  • 10,600 miles
Passenger door ajar alert is on constant delay. The door is closed but the sensor will not go off. This leaves the overhead lights on which create a visibility issue at night. This alert also prevents the doors from locking. Once the vehicle is turned off the computer and lights stay on for another 10 minutes before turning off which also drains the battery.

The left rear door ajar light comes on and does not go off even when the door is shut. Also, the interior lights stay on for up to an hour after parking the car, and for 3-5 minutes after starting the car. This is extremely dangerous when driving at night. It has also killed a battery already.

problem #300

Sep 022014

  • 55,000 miles
The door sensor that registers the driver door being open or shut has malfunctioned. Causing it to constantly state the door is ajar when it is closed. Very common problem it seems from many complaints from other Ford Edge owners. It would be great if Ford could step up and recall this problem, since its stretching to the Lincoln brand too. Its very unsafe for these reasons, it causes the cabin light to stay on longer which can cause problems seeing at night til it finally dims, it also drains the battery. Being a single mom, I dont want to be stranded somewhere with my child with a dead battery due to this problem. That being said, not being able to lock doors is a major safety issue. I would like to know my family is safe while driving down the road. Please fix this problem.
