CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar” warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

Door sensor, latch issues. Known problem with Ford vehicles. Door ajar stays on which drains the battery hence the dome lights stay on. My Ford Edge will not lock, causing very dangerous circumstances when driving or stopped at a light in an area that is unsafe. Will not lock while parked, in drive (on highway or road) or with the ignition turned off. I was over my warranty by 1,000 miles and Ford customer service refused to help me, told me to take it in and pay for the work and service call and submit a claim.

The drivers side door always says is ajar causing my fianc to drive around with the dome lights on. She already has trouble seeing at night and this is a disaster waiting to happen. The door is clearly closed. I noticed the door sensors are built into the latch so I looked up how hard it would be to change with the part O amazon and came across hundreds maybe even thousands of people all with the exact same problem. I don't understand how this isn't a recall with so many vehicles malfunctioning over many many years! do the right thing! lives are at stake! if you do right by your customers we will continue to buy your great products! but not at the cost of what could happen if this continues. I thank you for your time.

I own a 2011 Ford Edge. Not long after the warranty ran out my front drivers door ajar light came on. My door was definitely closed but the light remains on. This causes the door locks to not lock the doors while driving. When I park the car the exterior rear view mirrors down light stays on, the interior lights stay on and some dash lights. I've gone out to the garage 4 hours after I've gotten home and found them still on. Yes I had to replace the battery after finding it dead. Now the rear drivers door is showing its ajar on my dash. This is a safety issue. I can't lock the doors with my grandkids in the back seat. I can't lock the doors when I'm driving at night or through scarey areas.I travel with my husband who is handicapped and I can't be sure that my car will start when I return to it. I see many stories like my own from other Edge owners and I hope they take a good look at this problem. It's widespread, dangerous and an expensive fix.

My wife and I bought a 2011 Ford Edge on October 28, 2015 with premium care extended service plan. We asked before we tooked the plan what was covered. It was explained to us that it was covered from bumper to bumper for 36,000 miles or 36 months. We have a issue with our sunroof not closing when stationary. You have to hold the button and pull it shut. They explained to us that thee warranty covers the motor which they have already replaced and it did not solve the problem. They say it is the track and we were told that is not covered, I was told by the mechanic at the dealership service center where we purchased the vehicle from the track should have not gone bad that soon. The only thing we were given showing what the premium care warranty cover is a partial list. When you go to the website it still only shows you partial list like the brochure.Ford needs to do a recall or replace it.because I have found numerous people of the same models or older or newer models where car buyers are told or when a question is asked to a saleman and to there bosses you take there word for it and that it is true because they are trained to do there job and research of the Ford vehicles and the warranty they offer. When people are told wrong they don't go back or they lose customers do to not being done right. All we is asking is for them to stand up to their word and fix the problem since their employees don't have a clear understanding of a product of what they are selling.

Door ajar sensor will not go off and has led to the dome light not shutting off and will kill the battery. Takes 10-15 minutes of opening and shutting both doors on the drivers side. If I don't do this I will end up with a dead battery! usually this happens when I start my car or get out of my car. There has also been a couple times when while driving the door ajar sensor and dome light come on. This is a safety issue when driving at night.

When I go to shut my drivers side door it tells me that's it's not shut when it definitely is. This causes my interior and exterior lights to remain on. It takes multiple times of opening and closing the door for it to finally register that the door is indeed shut. It didn't start until a few months after owning the vehicle. When it first started it happened maybe once a month but recently it's been every time I get into the vehicle.

Door sensor fails to register that the door is closed. Won't allow doors to lock while operating the vehicle. Sensor will randomly fail, causing the interior and exterior lights to come on, sometimes draining the battery. This is a huge problem, and there are thousands of online complaints about this. Ford is unwilling to cover repair costs and will not warranty their work if you have them repair it.

Door ajar light comes on with all doors closed. The drivers door is the one affected. This turns on the dome light which can cause the battery to drain leaving a person stranded. Also, it causes the brake and parking lights to come on with no one in the vehicle. The door ajar light also prevents the doors from locking with the key in the ignition. The door ajar light comes on whether the car is turned on or not. The dealer said that they have to replace the drivers door latch. I had Ford repair this problem in the past. I have it in the Ford dealer again today for the same repair. I've uploaded the receipt from first repair. My car is still being worked on at Ford dealership and I don't have the receipt yet for the second repair. I think this should be a recall on this vehicle.

Takata recall. The driver door ajar light stays on at all times. Will not go off no matter how many times you shut the door, the dome light stays on, runds the battery dead. I have tried every thing including wd 40. I believe it is the sensor but I am not a mechanic so.... I have googled this issue and it seems that everyone that owns a Ford Edge has this issue. I can not believe there is not a recall on this issue.my driver door has at times not latched completely. I believe this is a safety issue as I am driving on the freeway and have small children. Ford needs to get their act together and recall this issue for every one that owns a Ford Edge. I have bought Ford for years. This will be my last. This issue is everytime you enter the vehicle. Stationary, driving, freeway, highway, turning. This has been going on for months now. Has been a continuing problem for several months.

Have started to receive "door ajar warning" indication when the driver door is closed. Have researched on-line sites and found it to be a very common problem with this model Ford vehicle. I consider this to be a personal safety issue as the vehicle's doors will remain unlocked until the problem is addressed. If I get the warning to go away when the vehicle is stationary the doors will lock and I can begin my drive. On numerous occasions as I am driving the warning will return and the doors will unlock automatically. This can be very unnerving and frightening at times as the interior lights will come on as part of this problem. When this happens at night the driver's vision is compromised by the interior lights and drawn away from the road. In addition, the safety of the vehicle's occupants is compromised as the doors remain unlocked. This problem needs to be addressed by Ford and a recall issued. I have inquired with my local dealer and received an estimate of $600 for the repair to be made.
