CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar” warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. When the ignition was turned to the on position, the passenger door ajar warning indicator illuminated. The contact had to exit the vehicle and slam the front passenger side door in order for the warning indicator to turn off. While driving at various speeds, the passenger door ajar warning indicator illuminated and all the interior lights illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,500.

Driver door ajar light stays on even when the door is clearly closed. The car will not stay locked; I press the door lock and the doors lock and then immediately unlock so I cannot have my car doors locked while I am driving. This is a constant problem; it is not intermittent. I am very disappointed in this car. I have had to have the throttle body replaced at a cost of $500, I have had a brake booster failure which had to be fixed, and now this problem which I read is a costly fix. This is my first Ford vehicle; what is the problem?

Driver side door ajar light has been on since I purchased with 20K mileage used. Lights stay on for 5 minutes, and will not allow me to lock doors in bad neighborhoods. I have replaced 2 batterys already, and now have 45K on odometer.

This is the second time the drivers door latch has failed. When it fails you can't always lock doors and light will stay illuminated on the dash. This also causes the electrical system to stay active even when the vehicle is off causing the battery to be drained. This recently killed our battery. It appears as if Ford has no fix for this as many have seen this failure to recur every 35K or so, guess it depends on how often you open/close the door to wear out the switch. Poor design.

The engine died, as I was driving the car down the interstate. The steering wheel locked as I tried to exit and my car drifted into oncoming traffic. Fortunately there was no accident but when I was finally able to get the car to the side of the road it was severely smoking and I had to get myself and my daughter out of the car immediately. Also, the head gaskets and radiator blew and now there is a major electrical problem with the car the service department could not diagnose after 5 hours of investigating.

Drivers door ajar light stays on. The door is closed. It won't lock the doors when you are driving. At night this is a pain since the dome lights stay on for awhile. Tried WD40 and nothing. Ford needs to address this since there are many many complaints about this.

Switch on shifter that tells the computer whether the car is in park or running malfunctioned. Component requires replacement of the entire shifter and has the ability to cause the vehicle not to start since it never registers that it is in part when stopped. Backup camera linkage failure rendering the back camera inoperative. The vehicle was stationary but problem with shifter switch reporting the car not in park could result in the car not cutting off or stopping when running. To fix these malfunctions and failures cost over $900 dollars. These are engineering defects not owner related.

The drivers side door will often report that it has been left ajar when it really hasn't. this causes the dome light to stay on at night while driving for a time which is distracting. It also hides the fact when the door actually is ajar because you assume the sensor is just acting up.

The door sensor is constantly indicating the door is open even when closed and sealed tight. The inside dome lights remain on because of this and you cannot see through you rear view mirror especially during night driving. In addition the light remains on even when the car is parked and you have left car. This attacks the possibility of a burglary. Also while driving the dome light remains on because of the defective door sensor and the driver is constantly slamming the door to get the sensor to shut off.

My door ajar light is constantly on for the back drivers side door. It causes my doors not to lock and my lights stay on. It has already ran my battery down and it causes my security system not to work. It is a safety hazard!!! I have called Ford and they say it's not a safety hazard and there is not a recall.

On my 2011 Ford Edge limited I am having issues with the door ajar, like many other people apparently. I sometimes have to open and shut my door 20 times until my interior lights turn off so it doesn't drain my battery even more. The locks will not engage when my door is 'open' and the door ajar alert will stay on. This issue is getting worse every time I open the door and is a safety issue. Please recall and fix.

Door ajar warning - my front, driver's side door constantly states that it is ajar. This causes the interior lights to remain on longer than necessary, the doors will not lock while the vehicle is in motion and the door ajar warning remains on at all times. Others have suggested using WD40 and lubricants to clean the sensor. I've tried this, and it worked for a few times, but this is no longer working.

*false "door ajar" warning light on dash stays on when door is firmly closed* this causes: - interior dome light stays on - unable to lock doors while in vehicle - they keep automatically unlocking (while in any gear or parked) when vehicle is on - doors do lock when vehicle is off, when locking from outside - but interior dome light stays on as an indication seems to occur more frequently during colder temperatures, and takes longer to "catch"/for sensor to finally realize the door really is closed. This has been happening since I bought vehicle (used) 6 months ago, sporadically at first, but now every day, sometimes multiple times a day (possibly because of colder temperatures?).
