CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar” warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 30 mph, the power sun roof opened and failed to close. The sun roof remained continuously in the open position. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the entire sun roof would need to be replaced. I looked at the moulding around the window from the top- and that is the only part that is snagging the window from closing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The dealership said the entire window needed to be replaced $810 vs. Just ordering the 2 mouldings on the top of the car. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

Throttle body issue - vehicle turns on and is able to drive, but wrench symbol appears on dashboard and the car goes limp; unable to accelerate at all. This happens while you are driving! according to Ford, it is an issue with the throttle body. Cost of fix at local mechanic is $330 for the part and $285+ for labor.

I was driving home from work at approximately 40 mph when an orange wrench popped on my screen and with no warning my car started jerking and sputtering and then quit working and completely decelerated like I had switched my car in neutral. I pressed the gas and nothing happened when I was in the middle of an intersection! I was able to get my car out of the roadway using some of my momentum but I was lucky I was not on an interstate or somewhere else. I was told my throttle body needs replacing. I looked into this issues with the 2011 Edge and apparently there was a notice put out on this throttle body in other vehicles for causing the same problem and leading to very dangerous situations, however mine wasn't included even though I had the exact same problem. I take great care of my car - oil changes every 5,000 miles and special maintenance when necessary and it doesn't even have 100,000 miles on it.

The "door ajar" warning is being displayed and despite slamming the door as hard as possible. This warning is a red herring since the problem is really the malfunctioning door lock. When the warning is there, I cannot lock the door. The quotes to fix this are raning from $350 to $500. I cannot use the car if I cannot lock that car. I also do not know : 1. if I happen to get it locked, will it unlock. If it doesn't unlock I will be stranded. And 2) if the door is truly ajar because the lock is faling in some manner, risk of the door opening unexpectedly exists. Therefore I have stopped driving my Edge. This problem happens when I start the car. The problem has been happening continually for about a week (since about 9/10/2018)

I was driving to work when I heard a loud boom. At first I thought I had blown a tire, but my vehicle was not shaking like I had, I looked in the back seat to make sure my son was ok and that is when I noticed my sun roof had shattered. Nothing hit it, it just shattered on its own.

I was driving down the road taking my child to daycare and then going to work like we do every day, when the vehicle stopped accelerating. It didn't die, but it just wouldn't let me accelerate anymore. I had to turn on my hazard lights and get off the road as best as I could seeing as how there was no shoulder for me to pull over on. I put the vehicle in park and restarted it and it drove fine after that. I've looked up many other complaints about this same issue so I'm worried that it will continue happening and we might not be so lucky the next time. Of course I just surpassed my 100,000 warranty so there's no telling what it will cost to fix it. Surely Ford knows this is an issue that thousands of their customers with this same vehicle are having. I'm not sure why they haven't done anything about it yet.

My vehicle has an issue where the hud will stay on occasionally after turning off my car and leaving it. This drains my battery, leaving my car completely dead. At one time it was unable to even jump start. This has happened twice, when the vehicle has been shut off. Also, any of my controls for radio/volume/cruise control/etc. Will often freeze or suddenly jump up or down. This happens randomly, regardless if the vehicle is in motion or not.

Door ajar light has been coming on. You have to open and close door several times. Doors will not lock. I drove my car with light on as I could not get it too go off. My door opened while driving down the highway. I could have been seriously hurt. Not to mention it's dangerous that the door doesn't lock upon getting in it, if you were trying to get away from a bad situation. This has been on going problem with my car for over a month.

My engine turned off while I was driving. I was slowing to a stop from 55mph to approx. 20mph to go straight at a red light. The light turned green before I came to a stop. When I pressed the gas to accelerate the engine turned off and all systems in the car did as well including power steering. I had no control of the car as it slowed to almost a stop in the middle of the intersection on a green light. I was luckily to able to coast at approx. 5pmh to the end of the intersection before it completely stopped and the car behind me didn't hit me, they went around. I had to get help pushing it to the side of the road after that to avoid an accident since it stopped in the road. When the engine failed the dash lit up with a picture of the engine and said to check power to engine. There was no warning beforehand. I do all my oil changes and regular maintenance. There was no check engine light or any other indicator that something would have been wrong. After this incident and getting the car home it now has a check engine light and won't run correctly. We changed the battery due to the wording about engine power and that didn't help. What I am most concerned and upset about is after this happened we looked the problem up online and it is has happened to hundreds of other people. If any other problems happened that many times that caused injuries this would be a recall and corrected immediately. But because out of luck I was on a rural 1 stop light road and no cars hit me as my vehicle completely failed on me, it isn't. I've received no notices and bought it used from a dealer. I commute to work every day and I am so thankful this wasn't on a work day on the freeway where it would have caused me to completely stop. Or dropping off my kids to school. I am honestly scared to get it 'fixed' and it happen again with no warning. Or put my kids in a car that puts us in danger.

After the warranty period has expired, there are common complaints of reverse camera malfunction. While malfunctioning, the image from the in-dash screen will produce varying results. At times, the image will be grainy, will be intermittently responsive, will be presented upside-down / mirror-imaged, or will not appear at all. While the backup camera does not provide the sole source of information for the driver as it is supplemented by the driver's field of vision and accessory mirrors, this malfunction presents a potential safety concern.

On Feb 5, 2015 as I traveled down the road my sunroof exploded. I was driving 55 mph under an overpass that was under construction at the time on smooth asphalt, but it was lunch time and there were no workers present nor any equipment in operation. It sounded like a shotgun went off in my car. I pulled over and got out and looked at my tires, fine. My windows, fine. Then as I stood next to my driver's side door about to get back inside, I heard splintering coming from the top of my car. I looked at my sunroof and it was spider webbing. There was a gap already gone at the front of the window. I went back to the roadway/apex under the overpass and looked around and found no rock or other item that I felt would cause such damage.
