CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar” warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

Driver door sensor keeps telling me the door is ajar when it is not. It will do this while you are cruising down the freeway causing you to freak out thinking one of the kids has opening a door in the back seat! this will be the 2nd time I've had to take this in to be fixed since owning the car, which is coming up on one year.

The driver door ajar indication even when the door is closed. The warning keeps alerting the driver. It says shift to park and close the door. But the door is closed. This is a safety issue. This occurs when at a stop or just before leaving a stop light.

Driver's door ajar notification on dash panel when door is closed. Dome lights stay on leading to drained battery and locks will not engage due to vehicle not recognizing door is closed. Door locks do not engage when driving or exiting the car, even when door is tightly closed. Locks do not engage and dome lights remain on when stationary as well as in motion and vehicle notifies to shift to park and claims drivers door is ajar. No recalls and very pricey to have local dealership inspect, diagnose, and replace entire door latch mechanism. I have only owned my car for a year. 47,349.8 miles. Have done extensive online research and found many other owners having the same issue.

Door ajar sensors/light doesn't indicate when doors are closed, and will come on for no reason when vehicle is driving. This causes the interior lights to illuminate and doors unlock/unable to lock. Very dangerous at night or when I drive with children in the car.

The warning light that the driver door is ajar is constantly on, even though the door is shut. This prevents the doors from locking when the car is on, and when driving. It also keeps the interior and perimeter lights on, until they 'time out, ' wearing down the battery.

Safety issue regarding door latch and door ajar sensor. Sensor has failed and continues to think the door is ajar which causes the doors not able to lock, and the interior light stays on and causes windshield glare when driving at night. This is a safety hazard as you cannot lock the doors for protection and you can't see properly to drive at night.

Driver door ajar light remains on at all times, not sure if door is closed all of the way or not, dome lights remain on as well. This happens while parked whether keys are in the ignition or not and also while driving.

Driver side door ajar issue. 2 years ago I had the issue, took it to the dealership to have the latch replaced because the car thought the driver side door was ajar. They replaced the latch and now I am having the same issue with the replacement latch on the driver side door. This doesn't allow the doors to be locked since the car thinks the doors are open. Also, interior lights come on. This can be a safety hazard and appears to be a re-occurring problem.

See attached document post to Ford. Our problems have been ongoing for a few months....one repair after another. I have noted the date of the "unable to turn off lights"issue but have documentation for all repairs this year.

The "door ajar" sensor seems to be broken intermittently causing the lights in the car come on (or not go off) making it difficult to see and very dangerous to drive. I nearly collided with a parked car when turning as the light came on. This is a clear safety issue and somebody is going to get killed because of it.

2012 Ford Edge, "drivers door ajar" message on constantly. Doors cannot be locked when vehicle started!! interior lights remain lit and battery drains! message says to "put car in park and close drivers door". door closes without issue but drivers door ajar message does not go away. Suspect switch is bad in door. This can be a very dangerous situation if doors cannot be locked after starting vehicle!! could lead to carjacking theft or my wife and children being stranded if battery dies. This needs to be addressed immediately!!

My Ford Edge,2012, had a "door ajar" warning and it required slamming the door very hard to get the warning removed. My lights would stay on after I parked and again require slamming the door multiple times. My back up camera will work and then not work making that safety feature unreliable! I had the door latch replaced at a cost of 325 dollars. Other Ford products have also experienced these problems and are under a recall. I believe this issue is not the result of careless treatment by my wife or me. We are both over 70 years old.

Issue - 'shift to park' warning indicator is shown when the vehicle is parked and the shifter is in the 'P' position. Doors cannot be locked and internal/external lights remain on while in this 'shift to park' position draining the battery. While foot brake pedal is engaged, shifting away from 'P' and back to 'P' sometimes registers the vehicle as in the correct park position. Repeat until warning message is gone. The vehicle is stationary on a flat surface but I am not sure if the vehicle is really parked since it's warning I'm not but the shifter is in the 'P' position. I dare not try this on a hill--and always the brake pedal engaged while I'm fiddling with the hand shifter. When did this happen? at least 4 times a week for a year.

After closing the front drivers door, the dash light indicates that the door is not closed and latched. I push on the door and the latch has caught. While driving, the system still sees the door as unlatched. I have played with the latching mechanism and I can get the sensor to see the door closed in about 1 out of 50 attempts. Most of the time I drive around with the system seeing the door as open. I have not gotten it changed because I fear the replacement will fail too.

Driver side door ajar warning light and message displayed after entering or exiting the vehicle even though the door is shut. Problem occurs intermittently, seemingly more often when outside temperatures reach above 70 degrees. Attempts to open and shut the door multiple times often does not resolve the issue. When issue occurs the doors do not lock automatically when the vehicle begins moving, interior lights remain on. Occurs when starting to drive the vehicle or when parking. If parking, when the key fob "lock" button is pushed the horn honks twice rather than the normal single honk, indicating that the security alarm is not activated. Problem occurred within the first 10K miles and was fixed by Ford dealership under warranty. Problem started to occur again around 35K miles (Jan 2016).

"door ajar" sensor began appearing on dashboard sporadically for 1 month. All doors were closed per normal, door locks were negative function while sensor active and vehicle was either parked or moving. After 1 month, sensor was on permanently. Door latch/S rr'd at Ford dealership where this used cpo Edge was purchased 13 months prior. Cost of repair: $540. Service manager has advised me that in the event of a recall for this issue, I will be reimbursed the entire amount by Ford. Yeah...right!

Driver side door does not close properly. Door ajar light stays on. Happens more in warm weather than cold. Has cause dome lights to stay on or come on intermittently. If car not driven for a day or two, has caused battery to drain completely. Roadside assistance has had to be called on multiple occasions. Has been happening for over a year. When car is in motion, car door ajar is constantly on, and anytime you break to a near stop, the alarm bell chimes.

Soon after purchasing a used 2012 Edge, the open door light on the dash came on and would not go off. All doors were closed. Also the doors would not lock when the light came on which became a safety hazard particularly when transporting children. Brought it to my mechanic and he said the door latch and light switch was one module and that it had to be replaced to the tune of about $500. Once replaced the problem was solved. Looking online, this is a really common problem. I feel its a defect that should be recalled and replaced!
