CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Escape has problems where the engine shuts down while driving. Ford finally issued a September 2014 recall. Time will tell if the recall fix really solves the problem.

However the 2005 Escape also has a defect where the PCM (Power Control Module) fries at around 100k miles. Ford extended the PCM warranty to 80,000 miles, but only after most owners were past the mileage limit. Now owners are on the hook for the average repair cost of over $2,000 (!!)

car caught on fire and exploded

My daughter was traveling on the interstate when she changing lanes she said lost total control of the car. The car hit a right concrete barrier did a 360 across 4 lanes of traffic at 2pm in the afternoon and didn't stop until hit the left concrete barrier. Once it hit the barrier it automatically started smoking and then caught on fire. Other drivers had to stop to pull her out of the car and she said in no time at all it just exploded. Not sure what happened she said it rained earlier but not enough to affect here driving. This is a road she has driven for years. We were asked about her tires and we just had her car serviced the month before and everything was fine. She said she is not sure but she really thinks the car malfunctioned.
