Cylinder #1 had low compression, Ford dealership quoted me 130 to connect to computer, 400 to tear into the head and 3900 total for the head replacement and services rendered (3900 was "best case scenario"). Gave me the option to replace the motor for 6900 (covering the fact they aren't sure the head will fix the issue or that there is the strong likelihood that the other will go out soon). I called and had a case created in order to recoup and have Ford "at least" meet me half way. 110,000 miles and new motor is being discussed. Something is seriously wrong with this picture. The services lady said that she agrees, funny how it wasn't her who said it first...

My SUV started doing a chugging thing, almost stalling, etc. Took it to Autozone which pulled up the code, it pulled up cylinder one misfire. Started calling around to different auto mechanics to figure out what was causing this problem. Thought it might be the coil. Finally decided to take it to a mechanic who I thought was the most knowledgeable. Turns out it wasn't the coil or plugs - changed the plugs anyway and did a compression test showing it was a little low and if it was a v6 I wouldn't notice it. Not sure what the problem is - this costing me two hundred dollars and not being fixed.

Would have to tear apart the motor to see what is causing the problem and the cost, no idea until they do the job.

Shortly after the engine was replaced at 42,000 miles, it developed an intermittant misfire under heavy load. After accelerating up to freeway speed, the engine would start to misfire for the about 15 seconds. During this event, the check engine light would flash while the misfire was occuring, then go out once it stopped. It would not store a code in the PCM, which led to diagnostic problems at the dealer. Can not duplicate, no code stored, there must not be a problem, etc etc. Finally, one day while driving to work, it misfired and the check engine light stayed on. The final result, P0306, cylinder 6 misfire. Dealer checked the coil, found that it was out of spec and replaced it along with the spark plug. The coil was from the original engine, so it had 42,000 miles on it as it was transferred during the initial repair to replace the engine.
