CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Ford Escape has an acceptable complaint history so far, with leaking rear window problems showing up as the main concern so far. NHTSA complaint data shows an early pattern of problems with stalling while driving.

Another concern is the 2012 Escape rolled onto its roof during an NHTSA side impact test so it only received a marginal side impact rating ... not good.

On Saturday 9/24/16 I was at a red light with my foot on the brake. All of the sudden the car engine started accelerating and the car started lunging forward and I had to apply more braking pressure. When I realized the car engine was accelerating, and I was holding it back at the red light with more braking from going forward into the car in front of me, I quickly put the car into neutral and I heard it lunge out of the accelerating drive gear and into neutral. Once the engine reduced the rpm, and the light turned green, I put it back into drive and drove the last mile home without further issue. Went on line to see if other 2012 Escape Accelerating issues and saw one posted. Writing this the morning after the incident (now a Sunday) and I will be calling Ted Britt Ford in Fairfax VA. where I bought the car on Monday.

Unexpected Acceleration when at a dead stop in high traffic is pretty scary stuff and I was glad to be able to react quickly and shift into neutral before a major accident occurred with both my wife and I in the car and a very busy intersection.

The incident/accident that I recently experienced with my 2012 Ford Escape was a near tragedy!!

We bought my car new in May of 2012; approximately 1-1/2 yrs. later it accelerated without me pushing on the gas pedal as I was exiting off a ramp of a by-pass. It frightened me to death. I got the car off the road; called our Ford Dealer in New Holland who then towed the vehicle to their Service Dept. After putting it "on the computer" it was told to me that it showed "no" malfunction. Yeah, right!!

Now for my recent calamity. On Sunday, May 29, 2016, at approximately 10:15 am, I drove my husband and myself to church. I was parking the car in a parking space in the church parking lot; wanted to straighten it out; saw that another vehicle was parking behind me; I waited; put the car in Reverse and all "HELL" broke loose!! It was total acceleration without me pushing on the gas pedal. My husband and I were both startled~~it happened so quickly. There was a good bit of damage to the R rear of my car; and, extensive damage done to the R side of the other driver's car. I could give a "hoot" about the damage to the cars. Luckily, there were no injuries. However, consider this: (1) if the passenger in the other vehicle would have opened his door to exit the car, he would have been killed!! (2) the next scenario - IF the other car had not parked (with the forceful acceleration), my car would have gone over a small embankment, probably overturned on 3 - 4 other cars and injured or killed other members of my church. I was beyond devastated that morning. It was not a good worship time!!

The appraiser/adjustor from our Insurance Co,. (after hearing the report) took the car off the road. It was deemed a total loss! I would have never driven the car again! We are now starting to look for another car, and, I guarantee, it will NOT be a Ford product.
