CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Ford Escape has been in the news quite a bit and for all the wrong reasons. Within a few months of its release the SUV was recalled three times, twice because of engine fires.

In July 2012, due to a fuel line that could split and leak, Ford told owners to park their cars because even driving to the dealership for repairs was deemed too dangerous. Instead, in a somewhat unprecedented move, Ford sent tow trucks to pick up the affected vehicles and handed out rental cars while the owners waited for repairs.

A few months later the Escape was recalled again because antifreeze could leak out onto the engine due to a freeze plug becoming dislodged. As the coolant hit the hot engine there was, once again, a threat for fire.

The 2013 is the first model year of the Escape's 3rd generation and proves once again that you want to avoid the first model year when at all possible.

The car only has 64, 000 miles. The CD player has rarely been used, and now it is not working. The problem first began when I started hearing a buzzing noise from the CD player after starting the car. The buzzing noise occurs about 3 to 4 times after the car is started and then stops. I didn't think anything of it. Today, I attempted to insert a CD into the CD slot, but the CD feeder would not feed the disk into the slot. The disk would just move further into the slot without the feeder activiating. I did not want to push the disk in too far, for fear it would become damaged. I guess this means another trip to the dealer. I will update this complaint asap.

Update from Jun 14, 2019: At 73,xxx miles the car needed a new battery. The old battery was original from 2012. When the new battery was installed, I no longer heard the buzzing from the CD player at startup. I decided to try the CD player and to my surprise it worked again! The old battery must have been bad for at least 2-3 years, but still always started the car up strangely enough. My dealership always tested the battery as “good” so I saw no reason as to why it would be cause the CD player to malfunction. When I took the car to another shop, after the car wouldn’t start, they said the battery had a bad cell in it and needed replacement. Who knows if the cell went bad suddenly or if it had been bad since the CD player started to act funny?? The good thing is that it works again!!!
