CarComplaints.com Notes: The top problem trend for the 2014 Escape is transmission failure at around 70k miles.

This is relatively low mileage for an expensive transmission failure ($4,500 average to fix), but unless the trend becomes more established, we are only awarding the 2014 Escape our "Beware of the Clunker" badge for now.

The car comes with White Clear Coat Paint. After 1 year of driving there were orange dots all over the car. Especially on the back tailgate. The front hood and grill was fine. (??)

I assume the salt and brine of the winter months is reacting with porous holes in the clear coat paint and finding its way down to the steel of the body and causing RUST. Since this is a new car I was shocked. Where I live I know RUST. A car here normally shows rust after 4 years, and it starts under the car not on the new paint surface. I would assume they have a failed paint process.

Since my car is White it shows up first. I used polishing material and a few coats of wax to protect the car. It looks like I will have to wax it as often as my old 1973 Maverick if I want the paint to last!!

I just noticed a 2011 Mustang with sheets of the clear coat missing. Ford could have a new issue here on the paint. My car is a fleet car and I know there are a lot of white Ford Escapes. It should be fun to watch them disintegrate before our eyes of the next two years.

My car costs $ 29,000.
