Explorer Eddie Bauer 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,000 miles

My car started shutting off in the middle of the road, start back up after a few minutes, it did this on 3 different occasions. After spending over a thousand dollars trying to narrow down the problem, it turns out that it is the throttle body. Each time my car stalled I was coming from a doctor's apt where I just had surgery and in a cast. The last time it stalled it wouldn't start back up and had to be towed home. After looking on Youtube, I found several people with the same problem. I called Ford and was told there was no recall on the ETB but after searching further I am seeing where they have a ' CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM' so I will call Ford again tomorrow to see if they will fix it.

07' Explorer will shake violently and shut itself off when coming to a stop or idling. I can throw it into park and restart the vehicle and it's like nothing ever happened until I come to a stop again. Not sure what is causing the problem. This is my wife's car and we have 2 children who she stays home with. Any clue to what may be causing this problem? Have the vehicle in the shop now, but not sure if I need to get rid of this thing before I dump any money into it and get her something safer or if this is a fixable problem and will be fine once repaired.

Driving at 70 MPH to work in fast lane my 2007 Ford Explorer completely stalled out, no steering, all lights came on, cars everywhere. I had a guardian angel on my shoulder as people actually let me get over to the brake down lane. The Ford company in Hanover, Ma where the car currently is did not think this was such a big deal saying it is most likely a computer failure...REALLY?! Not sure I will ever feel comfortable driving this car again, especially with kids in it. My commute is an hour each way to work. Scariest moment of my life
