I bought a used 2012 Ford F150 STX, which didn't have factory "Auto Lamps", however all of the factory wiring was in place to accommodate Auto Lamps. I installed the correct OEM light sensor and headlight switch. Theses upgrades, allowed, only, part of the system to work. ... the lights will remain on for the preset time delay, once the ignition is turned off. However, the lights are on at all times, when in the Auto Lamps position (The light sensor doesn't seem to be recognized.)
The dealer has had the computer scanning tool hooked up 4 times, but can NOT find the toggle to turn on the Auto Lamps. 2009 - 2010 F150 STX's have been plug-n-play, 2011 - 2012 STX's can not be made to work.
Ford Customer Service and the Ford Hotline have been contacted, with the results being about the same ... "Ford does not support changes from the original build".
My research has led me to believe, that the problem is the software, which was installed "at build", did not include the Auto Lamps option. Why would Ford not have installed the same software, as higher trim packages, even though, it might not be used? There are all kinds of other options provided, which I'll never use, such as "Police Configuration, plus others".
Current Pennsylvania law requires "headlights to be on with wipers", which is another option, available with Auto Lamps. Obviously, Pennsylvania views this as a safety situation, I have driven for 60 years, so it's not that hard for me to forget to turn the lights on with wipers. If the wires are factory installed, why can't the Auto Lamps work? Just because Ford doesn't want them to work? This problem doesn't seem to be correctable by the dealers, at this time ... only FoMoCo! .. and they don't seem to be interested in the customer being satisfied!
