01/18/2019 at approximately 3:45 pm est, my wife and I were traveling on nb route 301 in the crofton, Maryland area. Due to the recent snow and cold temperatures we are experiencing here in the eastern portion of the United States, we had the rear defroster activated in our 2012 Ford F-150 XLT pick up truck. While actively driving the vehicle, both my wife and I heard an extremely loud "pop" sound while riding inside of the cabin of the truck. I proceeded to look in the rear view mirror to see if I could determine where the noise originated from and that's when I observed that the rear passenger side glass was shattered. After stopping the vehicle, I did not observe any other obvious damage and was confused as to why the window suddenly cracked without an obvious cause. At this point I was quite perplexed. I subsequently turned to google in an attempt to find a solution and that's when I figured out what had occurred. It has been brought to my attention through various forums and online sites that multiple other Ford F-150 owners have experienced this same exact issue with the same exact circumstances in place (rear defroster activated, loud "pop" sound, observed a broken rear window). The articles go on to provide nightmarish exchanges between Ford F-150 owners and Ford dealerships where they are forced to pay full price for the repairs due to warranties being expired. Based on the age of the truck as well as it's mileage, I too am out of warranty. I do not believe Ford is recognizing or handling these issues properly. This appears to strictly be a design defect and no fault or negligence on the part of the owner/operator. My safety concerns are decreased visibility and sharp tempered glass shards inside of the cabin. I have submitted an insurance claim and am responsible for my deductible. I am looking to the NHTSA for assistance in looking into this matter.

Right rear slider window exploded and shattered. Defroster may have been on. Vehicle running about 5 to ten minutes. This has been a issue with F 150's since 2010. Also the water pump went out with 29003 miles. Now the truck has about 30100 miles accumulated. Driving slowly on a country paved road. Fords customer assistance refused to repair as the vehicle is out of warranty even though this is a on going factory fault. My sons F150 had the same issue.

Moon roof: Opened once when purchased. Accidently opened instead of dome light. Off the grid, would only close half way. 40 mph. Winds, heavy rain, got soaked. Very dangerous driving giving I was exposed to the outdoor elements as described. Dark wind and rain in my face for half hour. Wiping H2O from face and inside wind shield, steering and dash. Had mechanic at a garage closed it. Found two small pieces of plastic broken off track. Dealer first quote $1,100. Second quote was $2,200. Blog on web and U tube repair sites many examples of moon roof failures from track failure to moon roof exploding on Ford vehicles. Why does this not constitute a recall. Ford dealerships are asking the consumer to pay outrageous prices to have their engineering failures fixed. A rip off to the consumer. I paid about $43,000 for this vehicle. The cost to fix the moon roof is over 5% of the cost of my truck.

Rear defrost has been working sporadically, and then all of a sudden my back passenger window exploded as I was driving down the road. I was told the heating element is what caused the window to explode.

Driving down the road when the truck lurches forward, rear tires make a squealing sound from skidding. It was hard to keep truck in center lane of interstate and immediately had to make my way to the emergency lane. Once I turned the truck off and sat for a few minutes it acted like nothing ever happened. I have read the reports of the intercooler being messed up and several years ago I had to replace that part due to oil and water entering it but Ford says it wasn't under warranty due to a part not being covered. I have had coils replaced, spark plugs replaced, and now I'm having to go thru the whole process again. Its dangerous and frustrating. I've had it happen a couple more times but not to that extent. The gauges will peg all the way to the right then go to zero and airbag light will come on. Truck resets to normal when turned off and back on again. I have had this problem happen most of the summer. But this incident happened a few weeks ago. Repair shop can't replicate it and the computer diagnostic test doesn't find it either.

The roof frame holding the glass electrically operates moonroof cracked creating a dangerous condition during a rollover accident. The most serious problem would be a wateeemersion like the recent amphibious WW2 'duck' where 17 souls were lost. Please step up and require Ford to fix the problem. The first thing that came out of Ford mouth was ' oh yeah we've been having problems with the sliding glass roofs. Ford has serviced my vehicle since I bought it in 2012 and never mentioned this problem.

While driving my pick up on a cold day with the rear window defroster on, one panel of the rear window shattered. During subsequent driving the rear window fell out of the frame into the bed of the pick up. I believe the defroster malfunctioned and overheated causing the panel to shatter because of the excessive heat being generated by the defroster versus the cold air outside the vehicle.

Turned on the truck to warm up and turned on the defroster on the back window because it was cold out. About 5min down the road we heard this very loud pop and the window completely shattered. Luckily it stayed intact or the glass would have gone all over my two year old son. Now I am being told it costs over $1000 to fix!

I own a 2012 F150 ecoboost. My problem is when I accelerate during rainy/humid weather conditions, the vehicle stalls and shutters. The check engine light does not illuminate and the service center cannot daignose the problem because they can't see any code. I've been recommended to get new spark plugs and coils which does not solve the problem. Austin, Texas 1/2018

My F150 started to drop in to 1st gear unexpectedly when driving at at speeds greater than 50mph. At first the check engine light did not come on and mechanic could not find a source now I am getting engine codes P0720 and P0722. When I tried to investigate I found that this has been recalled on some 2012 Ford F150 but not mine. This is a serious safety issue and has cause unexpectedly down shifts on national interstates. I urge you to please investigate this thoroughly.

My 2012 F150 rear drivers side window section suddenly shattered after turning on the rear defrost function. Rear defrost went on then I smelled something burning G. the rear drivers side glass section then shattered. There was absolutely no trauma that caused this. The rear defrost will no longer operate since. I contacted Ford service and there is no recall at this time. I searched online and found close to 150 similar complaints. When the glass shattered the temperature was near 30 degrees and the vehicle was not in motion.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate and lost power. The check engine indicator immediately illuminated. The contact managed to pull the vehicle over to the shoulder of the highway and the check engine indicator dimmed briefly. The contact called the nearest Ford dealer and was informed that since the check engine indicator was no longer illuminated, he should continue to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to larry H. miller Ford lakewood, 11595 w 6th ave, lakewood, co 80215, (720) 643-1545) and repaired. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they added an air deflector per technical service bulletin: 13-08-01. The contact was concerned that the manufacturer did not issue a recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,251.

I purchased a 2012 Ford ecoboost in July 2012. And purchased an extended 5yr 100K mile warranty., which was valid through July 20, 2017. In August of 2017, after the truck sat for a couple days, I would start the car and hear a loud rattle coming from the front of the motor. I started to research the internet and found out that ecoboost models from 2011-2015 had faulty timing chains that stretched / malfunctioned after a short period of time. I found several testimonials and videos of ecoboost owners with the same issue. I contacted Ford and basically got a "sorry" response since I was 60 days over the warranty period. The repair cost $~ 4000 and Ford is turning a blind eye. I have followed all maintenance requirements and take impeccable care of my vehicle. And I'm now faced with a $4000 repair bill with a truck with 77K miles on it. We need NHTSA to help Ford step up to the plate and make this right to the customer. And issue a recall for this current tsb. If not repaired, the time chain can jump and destroy the motor. This isn't a small issue. No consumer should be faced with a $4000 repair bill after 77K miles and taking care of their vehicle. Your support in instituting a recall for this design malfunction will not just help me, but many others I've met online with the same issue. Regards.

When parked with ignition off and no one in the truck drivers side door will not unlock with key or inside on the unlock switch. When I first noticed the problem sometimes you can unlock and lock repeatedly and it would unlock but now it wont do anything. Both doors lock fine but when unlocking only the passanger side door unlocks. This is on an extended cab XLT.
