While driving on highway at 55 mph (6th gear), vehicle suddenly downshifted to 1st gear. The engine's rpms revved as the vehicle began to decelerate hard, resulting in the passengers experiencing a sudden jerk of their neck and body. The accelerator pedal had no response. After approximately 5 seconds I regained response from the accelerator and the vehicle began to upshift. A few moments later, the whole experience repeated with the vehicle downshifting to 1st. This repeated a third time. The incident caused several near-misses as we lost power at highway speed and began a rapid deceleration without notice.

On July 24, 2020 while driving on interstate 291 driving 45-50mph with heavy traffic, with absolutely no warning there was a loud explosion. I thought I was rear ended. Simultaneously the rear tires locked up while approaching a work zone. I skidded uncontrollably for approximately 100 feet. Ultimately came to rest on the shoulder. As my family and I exited the vehicle there was heavy smoke coming from the rear and underside of the vehicle. We thought the vehicle was on fire. The state police arrived on the scene within 5 minutes upon us exiting the vehicle. The transmission wouldn't go into gear so the vehicle had to be flat bedded to the nearest dealership, marcotte Ford, holyoke MA. Was told by the dealership the rear end failed and locked up. Upon their test drive I was told there was a total failure with the transmission. They said they had to wait for a decision from Ford to either rebuild or replace the transmission. August 19, 2020 I was notified that the transmission was rebuilt and that I could pick up the vehicle. I did not receive any prior phone calls from them to inform me of what was going to be done to correct the situation..

Intermittent grinding noise from integrated wheel ends and multiple replacements of wheel hubs that have failed to permanently fix the problem. The truck has been serviced on 09-20-18 and diagnosed as a failed 4X4 check valve. The problem was not fixed and returned to the shop on 10-16-18 where the problem was diagnosed as failed wheel bearings/hub assembly. The problem was temporarily fixed until it returned again and truck returned to shop on 03-22-2019. The shop again replaced the wheel bearings/hub assembly. The problem was temporarily resolved again until the front end noise returned again in November 2019. The truck is scheduled for the same service on 12-11-2019.

8/5/2016 the vehicle was originally taken in for a loud grinding noise coming from the drive train. The problem was intermittent and the dealer said they couldn't reproduce the problem and reflashed the computer. The vehicle was at highway speeds and it occurred when it was hunting for gears as I passed someone. 5/22/2017 the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for the same problem with a grind noise coming from the drivetrain. I told the dealer it sounded like cards in the spokes of a bicycle. They tried to reflash the computer and the truck made the same noise as soon as I drove away from their lot. I took it right back and told them that it was not fixed and I wanted them to keep it until it was fixed. The vehicle was at highway speeds and it occurred when it was hunting for gears as I passed someone. I picked the vehicle up approximately two weeks later and was told that the entire overdrive unit in the transmission had to be rebuilt. The truck only had 20,067 miles at this point. 9/23/2019 I called the dealership and told them that the noise had returned at that this would make the fourth time it needed to be addressed. They told me that the power train warranty covered any repairs for this up till 60,000 miles. I will schedule a time to drop the truck for a check as soon as I can. The truck has 52,622.3 miles as of 10/31/2019. The truck only makes the noise at odd intervals when it is between gears or passing someone.

The truck was running for about 15 minutes. We were going down a major highway in one of the passing lanes at approximately 70mph then without any warning power was lost. On the display trac stability came on then cycled thru hill assist and several others. I drifted of the road just past a exit. The engine felt like it was missing terribly as it cycling thru these errors. I shut it down and restarted it seemed ok, but check engine light still on, when I tried to move it started to shake and cycle errors again. I shut it down again and restarted this time it was running ok. The check engine light was still on and we drove with thecheck engine light for approximately 400 miles stopping and shuting off engine several times.light still on. Stopped for 1 hour to eat when restarting no check engine light on and has been working as normal today.

I bought this truck brand new from the dealer 8-2015. As of August 1, 2019 the truck stated vibrating between 50 mph and 75 mph while driving on the highways. I am getting a vibration from what appears to be my drive axle. It is most prominent when letting off the throttle and coasting from 75 mph to 50 mph. You can feel it in the steering wheel and you can also hear it.

In early September of 2019, I was driving my 2015 Ford F-150 on a major highway at about 65 mph. Suddenly, the vehicle stalled and lost all power as the dashboard lite up with some kind of traction warning. I drifted to the side of the road and put it in parked. The whole vehicle shook significantly at this point. I turned the vehicle off and waited about 2minutes. I started the truck up and went on my way with no problem. (note: This incident was a serious safety issue as I was on a major roadway in heavy traffic. My 10 and 8 year old grandchildren were in the back seat). A few weeks and a couple hundred miles later, I was on a narrow mountain road going about 45 mph when the exact same thing happened. I took the truck to the Ford dealer after both occurrences, but they could not find anything wrong with it, and said there was nothing they could do. I'm reluctant to drive it as this situation could cause an accident. It only has 42,000 miles on it and I use it to tow my travel trailer. I was not towing the trailer when these incidents occurred. I saw on your web site that several other people have had similar issues with the Ford F-150. Is there anything I can do about this? note that I bought the truck new in 2015 from the same dealer that I took it to for service. The transmission drops out of gear and cannot be reengaged until vehicle is stopped shut off and restarted. Problem has increasingly gotten worse from a mild fail to engage after a three point turn around to current condition. Last most dramatic event occurred yesterday while on I-75 near lexington, pulling a travel trailer when it dropped out of sixth gear in a construction zone with a tractor trailer behind the truck. Vehicle went to idle, wrench light appeared. There was no throttle response and transmission would not reengage. Had to pull off the side of the road and shut vehicle down. Upon restarting transmission worked normally until reached destination. Two Ford dealerships have not been able to diagnose this problem. Only one error code has appeared, P0731. Transmission fluid was added and code was cleared. Problem was not resolved. Other dealership could not replicate problem with no codes present. Ford customer care has been contacted regarding this issue. Appointment made with local dealer. However, evident they do not know how to resolve.

While in motion, at highway speeds on a highway and sometimes slower speeds on town streets too, my truck would suddenly start flashing multiple errors and the throttle would immediately be unresponsive. In 1 second I was dead in the water. The truck would immediately start slowing down due to lack of propulsion and the engine would have a very low rough idle. The throttle would not work at any speed. The only way to recover control of propulsion was to come to a complete stop right where the problem occurred (very dangerous), turn off the vehicle and then restart the vehicle. After restart the problem would completely disappear. Until it happened again. This problem appeared 3 times in 1 week, all while the vehicle was traveling uphill. I was lucky to not be in traffic at the time. I took the vehicle to the dealer and they reported the vehicle needed a new throttle body, and that this issue was common and that a recall was not in place. The repair cost is over $500.

My 2015 3.5 F150 has been experiencing sudden downshifting at random times. Typically, it happens once every hundred miles or so and takes the gears from 5 or 6 all the way to 1 or 2 gear at highway speeds. It is scary especially since we are supposed to be pulling a camper across the West for a few months. First the dealership said that it was a throttle body issue so I replaced that. Now they are saying that it is spark plugs. Apparently, four out of six misfire at the same time randomly which they said would cause the downshift. However, I just had them replaced with new boots three months ago. The issue did start after a dealer transflush but I do not know if it is a coincidence or not.

The truck will, without any warning, just basically cease to run. Engine will shake, truck will quit moving under its own power, and several service advisories will come up on dash suck as "service downhill assist, service traction control", and a few others. I stop, put in park, turn off truck, restart, and it will be clear and will go again. This has happened 5 times and is currently being looked at by a mechanic. 3 times has happened on roads with very light traffic. Twice, while getting on interstate. Truck has 87,000 miles.
