The emergency parking break does not work, I don't think it ever has. I have had it repaired twice over the years and it quickly quit both times. It feels like normal resistance when you push it in with your foot, and does a normal clunk and release when you release it, but it does not at all hold the truck in place. It is a manual transmission so it is very inconvenient for this to not work. An example, that I have to deal with regularly is hooking up to a trailer. I need to get out to see how close I am and I have to put it in gear (only reverse will hold it, the other gears will slip and the truck will roll) and turn it off to go look.
Failure of the ABS module has led to a near miss accident that was avoided via steering around the obstruction instead of braking. The obdii module is throwing code C1185 as a part of the failure of the ABS controller..
Cross frame member which contains the transmission mount was extremely rusted out and cracked. State safety inspection rep indicated it would not pass inspection in the near future. Ford no longer manufactures the frame member. I was lucky after a long search to find a dealer which still had the part available. Part # is: Xl3Z6A023ca. The vehicle has been operated in warwick NY since new and in northeastern pa since 2007. I believe if the frame member would fail the transmission would drop down. I have photos of the rusted unit. If you care to see them please send an E-mail address and I'll attach them to a E-mail. Something must be done to require manufactures to use better material for pickup truck frames and brake lines. I have also reported problems with brake lines on this truck rusting out. One incident, I reported, occurred after backing up a rv in a campsite after just driving over 150 miles on the interstate highway. Providence protected me as I could have lost the brakes while traveling on the interstate!.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford F-250 sd diesel. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, a loud noise was emitted from the vehicle. The contact attempted to engaged the brakes but the vehicle would not respond. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the power steering and brake pulley had detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 260,000.
2002 Ford F250 Super Duty rusted steel brake line which caused the brakes to fail at 25mph in neighborhood. I have 84,507 miles on the vehicle and do not live in a harsh environment. The location of rusty area is approximately 6 - 12 inches away from junction splice for the front brakes and rear brake line. The rusty brake line is the long rear brake line. The steel brake line is rubbing a cable cover that has metal tape on it and has caused premature rusting. I live in East Tennessee and the weather is not harsh. I purchased the vehicle new and had brake rotor problems before and had the dealer to turn the rotors once and replace the front rotors. Thank goodness I was traveling in the neighborhood when this happen. The week before I drove the truck on I-40 going to North Carolina thru the gorge. What if it happened then?
