This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Tonight my husband was driving from our home to pick up our son in South jersey. He was in 3rd gear and going approximately 30 mph car just died. A tow truck came. Car unable to start. Thankfully noone was with him and it was at night because a major accident could have happened. I see that 72 incidents of similar Focus cars dying have previously been reported to the NHTSA. I would like my car added as the 73rd incident. Oddly it was at 30,000 miles like it has been reported happening to the other Focus cars.
Ignition switch failed. Key would not turn when placed into the ignition. Dealer is currently replacing ignition switch and ignition column. Ford was contacted and has denied any knowedge of previous problems.
My whole is my problem. I lease this car for three years and they could not tell what the problem is. I spend more time at the dealership then I did on my job. I am still having problem with Ford Focus and they still don't know what the problem is. The customer service at adamson Ford is very poor. This where my first time driving a american car. They did not want to get me out of the car and then I call the owner of adamson Ford he did not call me back at all the only thing I could try to do is file lemon law but it will take so long for it to take action I drop the case. This should be taking off the market and people should get there money back. Because I almost got hit two time by 18 wheeler with my baby girl in the back in a car seat they don't give a [xxx] about that at all. This car is having problems right as I type you this letter. I am very up set on this car I have 12 months left and they still will have problem when I finish with it. I have many more problems but I am at work and it will have to type them later today. Please do something about this before it is to late and someone will get kill injured really bad. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
While driving 50 mph vehicle loses power/ shutsdown and restarts. Lost control of vehicle and hit a curb. This has happened more than one time. Also, this was a safety hazard.
Tires wearing out fast, accelerated speed, and engine kill, uneven suspension, indicator gauges and lights haywire. I was told by Ford that I had wrecked the car and had to pay $883 for repairs + $350 for new tires.
Car stalled while at a stop signal, then re-started; after 25 yds car stalled again and fire appeared from under the hood. Extinguished by towels and water. Damage noted to be a melt-down at battery and both pos and neg cables. Some melted and burned components adjacent. Insurance fire investigator noted damage in starter area.
First of I went out to start my car one day and the key would not turn the ignition was locked in place it would not move at all and the steering wheel was locked. So I took it into the dealership and they said they have had alot of problems with these and they had to work on alot of Ford Focus with the same problem. But I was just out of the warrenty period 36000 and I was at 45000 so they charged me for there work which was 500 dollars and its something that I could have never caused to happen and with the steering wheel lock the car was not able to steer at all lucky it didnt happen while I was driving but I dont think that it was something that should have ever happened.
7 new stereos, 2 ignition cylinders, a few trunk latches, transmission trouble(dealer cannot duplicate), 20,000 miles I have to replace 4 tires and 4 brake pads, horrible grinding noise when stopping, shakes on the freeway when braking, misassembled interior rails, and many others. I am completely dissatisfied with this vehicle, I will never, ever buy another Ford vehicle and I will certainly never reccomend a Ford to anyone.
Vehicle stalls intermittently at any speed. Before vehicle stalls dash lights come up. Frequency is increasing. Taken vehicle to dealer who cannot remedy situation.
Car stalls repeatedly, and brakes whine loudly. We have had the car in the service center a total of 14 days on four separate occasions with no resolution. Ford tells us that they can not find the problem and we should continue to service the car untill further notice. I am very upset at Ford as a company, they are not standing behind their product, and they are endangering the lives of my family members. I at no time feel safe driving this car, it shakes, squeaks, and most importantly stalls at any given time while driving down the road. I have records for all service repairs and documented proof that they attempted to fix the identical problem to no avail. I have already taken further legal action against Ford, but I hope this complaint will help me in my legal battle.
