CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't

Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.

2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

2010 Fusion hybrid lost power then shut down. A warning on the instrument panel said to pull over safely and stop. I have done research and found other drivers of the same make and model are having the same problem. If this were to happen in heavy traffic it could cause an accident. Apparently Ford motor is aware of the problem but has done nothing to remedy the situation. My understanding is the problem may be with the throttle body according to some of the complaints I have read. My vehicle is out of warranty but others have had the problem with vehicles under warranty. This problem occurred at 45 mph, thankfully just before turning onto I95 interstate entrance.

TL the contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving various speeds, the check engine indicator illuminated continuously. The vehicle was taken to cavalier Ford greenbrier (1515 S military hwy, chesapeake, va 23320) where it was diagnosed that the evaporator purge valve needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel vapor vent valve failed and the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15V79300 (fuel systm, gasoline). The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 135,676.

I noticed today there is a Ford recall for 2012 through 2018 Ford Focus for a faulty part that could lead to engine stalls. The recall states a malfunctioning valve that could result in inaccurate fuel level readings and potentially engine stalls or an inability to restart the vehicle. This is exactly what I have been experiencing in my 2010 Ford Fusion. While I am driving and start to slow down at a stop sign or to turn the corner the engine stalls and jerks and then it goes away until the next time I slow down or turn. I believe this to be the same situation as the current recall for the Ford Focus. Driver side door can't lock.

Takata recall I was driving and the car began to slow down rapidly. I was unable to control where I was going and unable to accelerate or decelerate. I have no control over the vehicle when this happens. It is not an all the time problem, but does happen very often. The check engine light comes on when it happens and the car accelerates briefly before instantly shutting off. The wrench symbol also comes on before this all takes place. I could be using cruise control or just normal driving and it happens in both situations. The vehicle tends to do it no matter where you are such as a high way or on a regular city street. I have had the vehicle checked out numerous (six) times to see why it does this. The mechanic hooks it up to the computer every time and states there is nothing wrong but then resets the symbol lights so they go out. The car will be fine for a week or so and then do it again! it is scary when it happens and I try not to drive the car due to this issue. How can you fix something the mechanics state is not broken? something isnt right with the vehicle and something needs to be investigated to see why it does this! it can not only be my car!

There has been an investigation on this complaint but it not under my VIN number. My car is shaking causing vibration when I'm driving. The tire seems if it's going to fall off the car as I'm driving. There is no light indicating there is something wrong. It does not pick up speed I would have to put my foot all the way to the floor for it to really go anywhere. I'm on the highway everyday going to work. I hope one of these days nothing happens to me or my family because Ford won't just take a look at the car when I'm calling them telling them that it's the same problem the recall explains what the problems are. The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the brakes failed to function properly when applied. The brake pedal traveled to the floorboard several times, which caused the contact to have to apply force and pump the brake pedal each time the failure occurred. In addition, the electric power steering failed and caused the steering wheel to become extremely tight when attempting to turn in either direction. The vehicle was also serviced for a manufacturer extended warranty campaign regarding the throttle body; however, the contact noticed that the vehicle was slow to accelerate while the other two failures progressed. The dealer (worthington Ford, 2950 N bellflower blvd, long beach, ca 90815, (562) 420-3333) was unable to provide a permanent remedy yet for the three failures that were experienced. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA action numbers: EA17004 (steering) and PE13003 (engine). The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The contact was waiting for a response from the manufacturer to determine if they could provide a permanent repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.

Error code P2112 - stuck throttle body. Acceleration disappears at high rate of speed, resulting in limp along, no propulsion to zero. Car stalls in high speed traffic, requiring immediate pullover. Very unsafe. Other Fusion of same exact year, production location, and model are covered under a customer service bulletin 13N03, but not the hybrids, even though experiencing the same exact issue. Just want this potentially fatal bug to be removed from my vehicle. Ford indicates no coverage or fix, due to it being a hybrid... although same issue as non-hybrid Fusion from same year, production facility, build date.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle stalled and the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact stated that the moon roof failed to open or close and the doors failed to open. The contact had to use the window to exit the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (long-lewis Ford Lincoln, 2551 john hawkins pkwy, hoover, al 35244, (205) 718-7027) where it was diagnosed that the moon roof was off track and the throttle body needed to be replaced. The throttle body was repaired. The other failures were not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and did not assist. The failure mileage was 82,000. The VIN was not available.

I inherited this vehicle a little over a year ago. The vehicle shuts off for no reason and the battery and wrench light come on. After much research I have found that this could be the etb assembly and that several people have complained about this. This is dangerous and I do not know why Ford has not recalled it yet rather than offering the customer satisfaction program. I have an appt to take it to a dealership on Saturday. This is a known issue and we shouldnt have to pay for any diagnostics. If something happens to me while driving I will sue.

While driving on the highway my 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid suddenly lost power and quickly decelerated from 65 mph to less than 20mph. I took it to the dealer who said that the throttle body needed to be replaced. This is the same issue on the non-hybrid Ford Fusion for which Ford has issued an extended warranty under customer satisfaction program 13N03 however Ford has excluded hybrids and manual transmissions that have the same throttle body part.

While driving upon acceleration increase of speed and slowing down there is a loud wining sound. When driving the vehicle for 15-20 minutes I can smell fuel inside the car. This is not when filling fuel it's while the car is driven for a length of time each day. The battery goes dead when sitting for one to two weeks. We have purchased 2 batteries in 1 year, had cables and connections cleaned and replaced. There has been messages coming up for "check engine" and the fan is noisy when the air or heat is turned up.
